I worked at SGS as a contractor

    Pros

    NONE. Not a single one.

    Cons

Daily multi-hour conference calls and Skype conferences. Poor leadership. ZERO strategic vision.

    Advice to Management

Don't make freelancers wait 60+ days to be paid. We tell our peers.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at SGS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are somewhat flexible and they always allow you to makeup your hours so you always hit 40 every week.

    Cons

Poorly run, extremely unprofessional, give you more work than you can handle, volume not distributed properly amongst the teams, expect you to do way more than what they're paying you for, not worth the stress, new software launches hinder performance, only concerned about KPI and timeliness, poor wages

    Advice to Management

Instead of being worried about KPI and timeliness and launching ridiculous software, some of that money should be allocated amongst the staff, the backbone of your organization

I have been working at SGS full-time

    Pros

There is some independence. Its difficult to say much more than that.

    Cons

The pay like others have mentioned is well below competitive or even median, currently im at the bottom 10% and have many years experience. Besides general pay bonuses are virtually non existent and raises if you get one are cents on the dollar. There is no real room for growth in lab positions. Management is mostly not the best and have a habit of not appreciating any kind of improvements or optimizing you make. Honestly this isnt a good place to consider a career, and hardly is good for experience, at least on the lab side of things cant say much for other areas.

    Advice to Management

Realize that high turnover isn't a reason to remain the same and instead push for better pay for your staff. Consider evaluating those who are in charge of others and their approach. Having a low score and bad reputation from your employees should be the highest priority to change not pushing higher profit margins. Without a good employee base the company will eventually collapse.

    I worked at SGS full-time

    Pros

If you are new to the field, you will learn enough to move to another company.

    Cons

SGS just bought Accutest. Currently there are massive layoffs, and pay and hiring freezes. There are no resources, secret and unattainable goals, and random shifting priorities. It's simultaneously a race to the bottom while they throw things at a wall and see what sticks. There's pervasive fear, intimidation, and the worst top-down declarations instead of management.

    Advice to Management

I know SGS took away your carrots. But lay off using so much stick. Inflexibility and bullying make for discontent.
