I worked at SGS Testcom full-time

    Pros

Most employee team is friendly. Be cautious though, few employees spy for the management and will go tell them everything you talk in private.

    Cons

During the term I worked there countless people got fired (though they have like 30 employees in total). Those who got fired including long term employees who are pillars of the organization; management use them as scapegoats. Guess what, the manager's who fire the employees; they also get fired within the next few months. This is an ongoing process there every month. The top management treat you like commodity. You'll be made to work between 60-80 hours a week on a regular basis. In spite of your outstanding work, you'll continue to get average rating every year end (but all managers get higher ratings so they get bonus) so you'll not get yearly raise/bonus.

Employees are paid below market rate; so the managers and VPs can get high raises and bonuses.

Stay away (OR) go struggle there yourself.

    Advice to Management

This organization doesn't survive too long.

I worked at SGS Testcom full-time

    Pros

    It's a job, that's about it.

    Cons

Extremely micromanaging, while management generally doesn't actually know much about what their employees truly do. Pay is low compared to other companies in the area. Employees aren't given the tools they need to do their jobs properly, with management claiming cost as the issue. There's effectively no direction given; I started, and after being given a tour of the building and meeting a few people, was completely left to my own devices. No projects assigned, nothing whatsoever. Supervisors don't supervise and managers don't manage anything of actual importance. This is just a small sample, there's myriads of problems here, and none are addressed.

    Advice to Management

Your staff turnover would be a lot lower if you actually created an environment that employees want to work in.

I worked at SGS Testcom full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some of the smartest people I've ever had the pleasure of working with were at SGS Testcom in the Rancho Cordova office.

    Cons

High management turnover - eight IT Operations Managers and seven Program Managers in nine years. Discounted staff opinions and recommendations - used senior staff as scapegoats when beneficial to senior management. Upper management encourages in-fighting among staff and uses some staff to snitch on others. They don't want truth from employees, they want to be parroted back their own opinions.

Benefits were low end and high cost to the employee. Salaries were hit and miss, if you were not someone that management felt was valuable or important, you were lucky to be compensated at the legal minimum. Raises and bonuses were intermittent, and most raises tended to fall into the range of a cost of living increase, not a real raise.

No real path for advancement, no training or mentoring offered or provided to most staff when actually given a promotion. Internal politics are unhealthy and cause many staff to be more concerned about not making onto a "hit list", than performing excellent work.

Many times management refused to spend money on necessary infrastructure as it would affect their bonuses, so staff were many times forced to "figure it out" and come up with solutions to issues that were temporary fixes at best. Management would later on get upset when the fixes failed, and would turn it around onto the staff for "not pushing more" to really resolve the issue.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to properly do business in the states, regions, and countries you operate in. Actually hold your middle and senior management to the integrity values you say you follow. Realize that your true assets are your staff, instead of taking the position that "everyone is replaceable".

    Pros

Flexibility in hours that you work, and work and work.

    Cons

You will work and work and work and work.... without gratitude or recognition. Then they will kick you in the butt. Oh, and the benefits, they are bottom of the barrel.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to tell prospective employees that work life balance is a priority.

I worked at SGS Testcom full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Paid Vacation, Pretty good medical package, provided uniforms, good coffee and the occasional free cold pizza.

    Cons

Excessive micromanagement. Managers/Shift leads spend more time running around questioning "the help" than actually being productive themselves. As an employee or "the help" you WILL be held responsible for anything that goes wrong unless you spend 40% of your workday logging and recording your every move. Very low morale and zero loyalty among the help. Training is ...... well, your mileage may vary due to the buggy software and outdated hardware and analysers.

    Advice to Management

Have a little more faith and trust in those who are there to support the company and fill your pockets, remember....without the little guy, you have nothing.

    Pros

Honestly, the only thing that I am happy about is that I no longer work here. Management might be nice people, their expectations were unreasonable.

    Cons

Too many to list. Management didn't support their workers and expected the moon. They were nice but I would not recommend working here to anyone.
