I have been working at SH Cogent full-time

    Pros

Company transport, good friendship with old uncles who are not recognised for their efforts

    Cons

Too many management trainee that it doesnt take much for u to be a manager except to be chinese and also know how to carry balls. Managers are mostly playing facebook or sleeping or even playing games while you work like slogs. No benefit. Employees get penalised for leave taken because of sick child etc and get terminated without any warnings. You can really see the racism going on but since Benson (CEO) is chinese he wouldnt give AF. High staff turnover because of this. 3 out of 5 employees resign after only 2 weeks.

    Advice to Management

Have a little concern for your staff treat them equal regardless of race language and religion like the oath u took.

    Pros

They provide transport as require to go to different work area pay still consider reasonable.

    Cons

Totally family business taking instructions and order from just one key person for everything.

    Advice to Management

Allow their staffs to run the show and just make critical decision when require.

I worked at SH Cogent full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free company transport at Jurong East.

    Cons

    - Family business.
    - Incompetent Management. They go for long lunches, and sit at their offices whole day doing nothing while their employees are slogging away. Managers and HODs only knows how to talk, but never walk the talk.
    - 10 days of AL for the "blue collars.
    - Lots of Malaysians.
    - Office environment is old, smelly and dirty.
    - People there are very unprofessional.
    - Hire lots of management trainees just for their cheap labour.
    - The people working there have no ambitions, mostly just want a job and a stability.

    Advice to Management

Transformation. Hire more a capable team of HODs. Be more generous with the staff welfares.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at SH Cogent full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Salary package is frequently reviewed.

    Cons

    1) No work-life balance: staff work during day time and attend long, inefficient meetings in the evening. Effective staff may have to work 12-13 hours/ day. Working during weekend and public holiday is required with minimum compensation for this position.
    2) Constant shortage of staff: The high turn over rate leads to a constant staff shortage, especially in operation. This causes current staff to be asked to overwork or to be transferred to new role without any training.
    3) Middle managers lacking management skill: Very weak task allocation skill, lack of experience in mange diverse team (with multinational members). Seniors/middle managers do not listen to staff's feedback, instead impose their seniority by blaming staff and insist that they are right.
    4) Insufficient safety procedure and training for on-the-field staff: During the time in the company, I have witnessed 4 people being injured (one with broken ankle, one with broken palm, one falling down from high cargo and one falling down in the container and got hit by a big nail) during field work.
    5) Unreasonable customers: if unlucky, staff may have to work with unreasonable customers who ask for big shipment being prepared in one day, or cancel shipment last minute. The company does not have any mitigation measure (e.g. contract terms, penalty policy) for these circumstances.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to staff's well-being and safety. Encourage a work-smart and efficient working environment. Constantly keeping your people until midnight (or more) does not ensure that they will produce better result. If staying until midnight is required (sometimes it is), make sure that the compensation is reasonable (e.g.day-off to recharge, monetary compensation, etc.).Invest more in safety procedures and training to minimize the risk for those working on the field.
