I have been working at SHI International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at SHI immerses you in IT solution selling from day 1 of training. Resources are available to learn anything about IT and sales you may want. Laid back atmosphere. Results driven advancement.

    Cons

Vertical Mobility limited. Compensation. Micro-Management. Metrics sometimes interfere with productivity. Sometimes you feel like a lone soldier, leading large projects by sheer will.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to treat employees with more encouragement than nagging. Allow reps to earn a better portion of their sales margin, thus allowing talent to remain happy with their position; resulting in more growth.

I have been working at SHI International full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Rapidly growing company; relatively flat organizational structure with opportunity to be part of building new capabilities or offerings. If you have good ideas, and the drive to help execute them, there's enough of the small company feel here for you to be able to build something.

In many departments, there's low turnover, and long term employees showing it's a positive place to stay, with a family feel.

    Cons

There are some growing pains as the company evolves and grows. Sometimes, there aren't standard processes for things other companies may have - while that gives you some flexibilty, it means some things take more work than you'd expect.

    Vacation benefits are relatively low.

Some parts of sales have relatively high turnover.

I have been working at SHI International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great money, pride in your work and lots of perks like free lunches, events etc.

    Cons

Leadership is awful, they do not see ISAMs as sales people but more as order takers. Yes we place the orders but we also manage the customer relationship, deal with the logistics of the orders, manage all software renewals as well as ALL back end issues like tracking, back orders, quoting research and general problems that customers have.

    Advice to Management

Stop lowering the comp plan unless your goal is to run off the people who are great at this job to then replace them with people who provide terrible customer service because no one is paid enough to actually care.

I have been working at SHI International full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent starting job, but not much room for advancement

    Cons

Only matches up to $2k/yr 401(k)
Once your salary is capped, raises are automatically $500 a year, regardless of performance or inflation
    Very little room for advancement
Very little support from other departments, Inside Sales is expected to fix everyone's problems and if they make a mistake, you take the hit for it
Very low pay for non-sales jobs means poor performance is expected
Extremely large commission rate disparity between inside and outside sales
Dental only covers up to $1k per year so if you need a root canal expect to pay out of pocket
No options for working at home, flex time, summer hours, etc

    Advice to Management

Improve pay, expect other departments to take care of their jobs instead of relying on sales to fix everything, and most importantly, take responsibility. When purchasing or returns or payroll makes a mistake, put the onus on them to fix it.

I worked at SHI International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people you work with are great. It's a younger crowd so it's easy to make friends and can be very laid back.

    Cons

Management can micromanage, they don't trust you at all. They constantly talk about how they're a 7 billion dollar company and yet they pay you squat.

I have been working at SHI International full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for especially if you're starting out from college - great opportunity to grow in leadership and company promotes from within. Lots of vendor gifts, cool toys, yearly raises & holiday bonus. Trips & amazing perks for top sales reps. Can choose work hours from 6:30-3:30 to 11-8p (late hours usually gets 3k bonus)

    Cons

Your experience will vary depending on your team and your manager. Two different people at SHI can have two vastly different experiences. Some managers micromanage, teams can suck, lots of office politics and sometimes you have young immature managers since SHI hires a lot of kids straight from college. 9 hour work days (no paid lunch).

    Advice to Management

Allow anonymous feedback of management during yearly reviews.

    Cons

Limited opportunity for growth, low pay for the volume of work, office politics.

I worked at SHI International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lax atmosphere, run your own business

    Cons

Exceptionally low base pay, weak market, odd positioning as extension of being a representative for an 'IT reseller' meaning you have very little tangible value as there is no specific product made so customers prerogatives are exceptionally paramount and not a social business environment, most pay depends on spiffs which are direct incentives paid by original equipment manufacturers such as HP, Dell, etc. so yes they have a great business model

    Advice to Management

pay more and reps will stay, terminate quicker if need be-your prerogative if reps go/stay, not saying it's imperative for the business to flourish

I have been working at SHI International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of great young people, good culture, good benefits, nice work- life balance (mostly b/c they don't want to pay overtime), strong job security. I've honestly never seen or heard of someone getting fired.

    Cons

Low pay for this industry, no chances to earn overtime, very low growth potential. Few chances to move up. The system is designed for high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Do more to retain talent instead of constant hiring, get rid of bad employees, allow more work from home days.
