I worked at SIUC Daily Egyptian Siu Newspaper for more than a year

    Pros

Archive room ! I could look through old editions of the paper all day, it's just fascinating to see how times have changed and to feel that history in your hands!

    Cons

Time. Its difficult to have a story that takes a lot of work and meet that deadline when being on other peoples time.

I have been working at SIUC Daily Egyptian Siu Newspaper part-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    - Established organization - Established alum - Student driven

    Cons

    - Focus on print based journalism. - Doesn't engage in community - Shuts down so many pitched stories for fear of numbers (numbers are already low)

    Advice to Management

Get staff more involved, and listen to them.

This is a great place for first time journalist.

Sometimes a bit chaotic, but so is any job.

      Advice to Management

Treat all your employees as equally important.

      Positive Outlook

I worked at SIUC Daily Egyptian Siu Newspaper

      Pros

I would say it was engaging. It was a fraternity without the Greek letters. It was also very professional

      Cons

Sometimes people you depend on (not in my inner-circle of co-workers) didn't show up like I preferred. And some things were ignored when there was a wealth of things to be reported on in those areas.

      Advice to Management

Share the wealth when it comes to big clubs and small clubs, as well as big sports and small sports. Also, stay on reporters and photographers alike to make sure both have their days coordinated better.

      Negative Outlook

I worked at SIUC Daily Egyptian Siu Newspaper for more than 2 years

      Pros

Like any on-campus job, hours were flexible which is obviously great for students. You also get to work with students from all kinds of backgrounds across campus.

      Cons

Administration is incompetent. They don't care about trying to improve anything, but rather just maintaining the mediocre quality of the paper and meeting the status quo.

      Advice to Management

Start caring about people's ideas and let them run away with them. The paper will die if it doesn't evolve and adapt, though it might already be too late.

      Neutral Outlook

I have been working at SIUC Daily Egyptian Siu Newspaper part-time

      Pros

You will get some experience in the print field. Lots of people to help you learn new skills.

      Cons

Highly disorganized. Some of the student workers don't treat it like a "real job", and insist on doing everything themselves instead of teaching new student workers. Very "clique" oriented culture that doesn't communicate well.

      Advice to Management

Actually run the business instead of playing at it.

      Neutral Outlook

I have been working at SIUC Daily Egyptian Siu Newspaper

      Pros

gave me great experience in my job field. There were some opportunities here that were not present anywhere else in the Comm for my major. The advertising/business department has there stuff in order pretty well.

      Cons

There was much too much drama there. Getting a promotion depended on who you knew and there was immaturity, especially among the editors. It was like a high-school journalism fantasy camp. When they are walking around with their grad school degree and no job, I will be laughing

      Advice to Management

Figure out exactly what it is you want done then implement it for at least more than a couple days/weeks. It confuses employees and makes you look dumb.

I can be any where at any time and i love to face the best subject's and be there don't know what may happen to me and i don't care it's just living life with no fear is the best way to get a good life time.

      Advice to Management
