I have been working at SLR International full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I imagine it is a great company to work for if you're already a project manager, principal, director, etc.

    Cons

The lack of routine evaluations discourages a focus on self improvement and greater contribution to the company.

    Advice to Management

Increased focus on internal education and advancement would improve employees' skills and levels of interaction.

I worked at SLR International full-time

    Pros

A number of talented long-tenured professionals remain with the firm. Flexible work schedule. Staff collaborate well and seem to care about the company.

    Cons

The never ending talk about the Private Equity event that has been ongoing for several years, and the fact that they are desperate to get maximum value for the firm such they are making several very short-sighted decisions. These will certainly impact the longer-term success of SLR. Recently hired COO for North American has a horrible reputation in the business as a person who will deliver the "plan" at all costs. Meeting financial objectives are important, ruining the trusting culture and having no ability to inspire staff...not so much.

    Advice to Management

Dump the COO and find someone who can be both an inspirational leader and mentor, as well as accountable for financial goals.

    Pros

Good pay and nice people. Human Resource staff is top-notch and very understanding.

    Cons

Legacy US leadership does not have the experience or knowledge to grow the company successfully in a modern competitive environment. There is no structure to the company. Staff have no framework for growth.

    Advice to Management

Global leadership appears to be making changes to US operations for the good. My advice is to refocus on internal growth of junior and mid-level staff so they are mentored and challenged accordingly.

I worked at SLR International part-time

    Pros

Some very good people with great technical capabilities.

    Cons

Very little inter-company teaming/coordination. Management style encourages islands so as a larger organization, SLR does not work well.

    Advice to Management

Seriously review personnel that have been appointed to senior leadership positions. They are your biggest weakness.

I worked at SLR International (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly work environment, flexible working schedule, remote work allowed.

    Cons

    Layoffs when business falls.
    Benefits are only average.
401k matching is a lump sum at the end of the year.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you have work for everyone before you bring new people on board.
Try not to be reactive to market conditions but use the down times to better position yourself for growth when the market changes.

"Great... if you are upper management"

    Pros

Health benefits, company events (bdays, holidays, happy hours), 10 paid holidays, company growth

    Cons

Pay for non-billable employees, employee's confidential information is shared amongst HR "professionals" and President, vacation time, major decisions are all made through the parent company in the UK, upper management plays favorites - stocks and extras to some and nothing to others, HR Manager is unapproachable and tells upper management everything you tell him. HR Manager and Accounting Manager argue like school grade children creating negative energy and uncomfortable situations. Policies are handled inconsistently (401k match and bonuses), and some offices/employees do not have to follow them if they choose not to. Wrong management approach.

    Advice to Management

Stop making working for the company "inflexible", pay more attention to HR and how things are being managed, treat EVERYONE equally no matter if they are billable or not - everyone is working hard to make the company successful.

    Pros

Small office, easy-going staff, ok work-load

    Cons

Very top-heavy, no mentoring of Jr. staff, your get pigeon-held in one position, Managers play favorite, lots of inappropriate chatter between Managers and Woman that work there,

    Advice to Management

SLR used to be a great company to work for, until you started adding corporate layers, and moving away from your core values. Go back to the way you were 3 years ago....
