Lync room system is good, not great

    Cons

a lot of people in the company lack urgency
poor product development and quality testing
Buggy product that only gets fixed after it's released to public
    "frog in a well" mentality

    Advice to Management

Need some serious overhaul of the product development and testing.

Take your head out of your butt and start looking at the competition, it won't be long before customers realize SMART's focus is on revenue, not customer satisfaction.

I worked at SMART Technologies full-time

    Pros

The business of collaboration is fun.

    Cons

The company only cares about revenue at any cost. The company is basically going out of business...look at their stock! All the good employees are leaving for a more stable company. Anyone who sticks around to 'turn around the ship' is only met with a slap in the face. It takes more than a few months to turn around an underperforming business (Enterprise Business Unit). Management does not understand this nor care, and consequently lets people with huge potential go - only to start again with someone new who falls into the same trap. No wonder they have the terrible reputation as the 'revolving door'. Clients know this and are standing firm and basically not buying. The Education business is the only thing keeping the company afloat.

    Advice to Management

    Sell the company to Microsoft.

I worked at SMART Technologies full-time

    Pros

I was part of the IS team and genuinely loved working there. I also worked occasionally with people from PD .
Both teams have outstanding skills and part or SMART's success is owed to their excellent skills, professionalism and understanding of success as being teamwork.
Peers are easy going and good listeners which makes it easier to ask for help, get work done and deliver.
My manager is very knowledgeable, initiated discussions that helped us make good design and touch base frequently to make sure we are on the same page.
Occasionally had to do long hours, because I chose to, wanted to finish and start something else the next day and I enjoyed work, not something I was asked to do.
Good location, parks around, clean building with flex hours, a gym and a daycare in the building basement.
    I highly recommend +1

    Cons

More RRSP matching would have be great, since the company does not have a group retirement plan.

    Advice to Management

Regarding senior or exec management, I didn't have contact with them directly so I can't comment.
Regarding my direct manager, you're in the right direction, keep up the good work, implementing a governance model and unifying SMART's back end will bring great value and financial savings
