I have been working at SMC 3 full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Financially stable, good benefits, investing in company growth

    Cons

    With the smaller size, not much room for personal growth/advancement. Do not seem to hold people accountable; do not let people finish one project before pulling to another - start and stops; do not seem to listen to people as much as all the surveys suggest;

I have been working at SMC 3 full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The best part about working here is the great people I work with. Very professional, enthusiastic, and proficient! I look forward to coming to work. We are a small company but we don't have the big stresses like other companies have that I've worked for. Pay and benefits are very fair and the 401k match is very generous!

    Cons

The hiring process takes a long time, but I do know we do a great job at selecting quality people. Promotions are not that frequent and it takes a while to get promoted.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great leadership! Let's remain like a small company even though we may double in size. And maybe a gym membership would be a added bonus!

I have been working at SMC 3 full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This is the best company I have ever worked for, hands down. I could not recommend it more strongly. SMC3 is a fairly small, but very solid company. It has been in business for over 80 years. There is no anxiety about coming in one day and being told we've been sold to some faceless corporation or that we are going out of business. The company is very open and transparent about business dealings. Every month they...

    Cons

Vacation is set at 2 weeks a year, plus 3 floating holidays. It takes 5 years to earn more vacation. The Louisville Office, while nice on the inside is very close to an old and dilapidated hotel which is an eyesore.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing.

I have been working at SMC 3 full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Smart and talented people from top to bottom and the atmosphere is very family like. Great products and well positioned in the marketplace to grow and provide their customers with best in business solutions. Lots of small perks like breakfast and lunch being provided a few times a month and free candy on Wednesdays. Little things but always appreciated. Flexible hours for those of us driving from the northern parts of...

    I worked at SMC 3 full-time

    Pros

Pay is decent. Great food is provided often. Events and small gifts provided by the event team is awesome! 401k matching is better than most places.

    Cons

Very hard to fit in. If one person decides they don’t like you your time could be short lived. New employees have a different set of rules because "they have not paid their dues yet" New salaried employees have to make up any missed time no matter how small the amount of time. Sometimes you are forced to use vacation time for a 2 hour doctor appointment and are not allowed to make up the time. There is little consistency....

    Advice to Management

Take some Management classes. You have been in a protective bubble. Being at one company 30 to 40 years with the same people you grew up with is extreme under exposure and does not give you the communication and leadership skills you need for the new employees who have been in the outside world working for large corporations.

I worked at SMC 3 full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good pay, rarely work over 40 hours, excellent benefits including 401k, small company (under 125 employees at last count) so everyone knows each other. Upper management makes an effort to get to know everyone in the company. The vast majority of employees are friendly and hard-working. Groups will often go to lunch together. You get fed alot... lots of office luncheons. :) The new CEO is excellent and I believe he...

    Cons

Limited sick days, no work-from home, and therefore not a great place for single parents. This is such a specialized industry that there is little to no opportunity for your skills gained there to transfer to another job. This is definitely a "traditional" company. They value the company hierarchy and make sure you know your place in it. To me, the biggest Con at an otherwise amazing company is that some of the older...

    Advice to Management

Welcome the changes by the new CEO. Don't be intimidated by your employees' ideas or their knowledge of things you are unfamiliar with. They work FOR you. Their ideas just make YOU look good. This isn't Westeros, no one wants your middle-management throne! Don't fear innovation or else the company will be left behind the growing competition.

Thank you for taking the time to review our company. SMC³ has spent much of the beginning of 2016 making changes that allow for a more flexible workplace and updating policies. There are still some changes to come and we are in the process of doing that. We as a company do not tolerate ...

I have been working at SMC 3

    Pros

People are treated fairly well. Working long hours are discouraged. Company appreciation day. Atlanta office has friendly people. 8% matching 401k. No traffic issues with commute due to location in Peachtree City (main office)

    Cons

No flex time. 745am-430pm set work schedule with 45 minute lunch. Lots of strange rules (no headphones with music, don't close the blinds, etc). No vacation the first year and then only 10 days after + 3 sick days the first several years. Expensive health insurance. A lot of folks who have been here decades or more and old ways/mentalities. Resistance from Louisville staff/upper management to process improvements and...

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to change with the time. Offer flex time, vacation, and up to date benefits. Bring in project management for software projects, upgrade to newer systems and methodologies, collaborate better across teams (teams can be siloed and competitive).

Thank you for taking the time to review SMC³. SMC³ has taken feedback like this review and used it to help make us a better employer of choice. We are excited to say that we now have flex time, we now allow headphones, and we have reworked our entire vacation and sick time policies.
