    Pros

    Generally very good people
    Broad range of clients
Good peer / mentor / mentee program

    Cons

Not actively addressing the pay equity between men and women
Not actively addressing the numbers of men vs women in leadership positions
Not providing competitive policies to support the attraction and employment of women

I have been working at SMS Management & Technology full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Supportive & collegiate culture however not as strong as it used to be. Great place & opportunity for graduates and those less experienced to learn their trade.
Bringing back branch meetings & paid coffee catchups allows consultants to reconnect with management & base office staff.
    Good range of social activities.
    Quality body shop approach.
Recruitment arm (M&T) is solid & well respected.
Salary ok but slightly below rival consulting companies.

    Cons

-Have lost significant quality staff over past 4yrs and it's impacting bottom line & capability offering. There have been more instances of dissatisfied clients due to placing consultants that are unsuitable with limited solution offerings.
-Flat structure with no career progression.
-Has lost its reputation as a Tier 2 market leader is highly disappointing.
-DWS acquisition is concerning but expected. So Expect more quality staff to leave.
-No bonus paid for past 5yrs despite meeting consulting targets & KPI's.

    Advice to Management

Too little too late. The board should be accountable for poor decision making & strategy over past 4yrs.

    Pros

It can make sure each individual works hard.

    Cons

People work hard always not the one who is getting credit
Management team's relationship is messy and miracle
Managers are not flexible enough and not trust basic level consultants
Lots of people talk more, and do less while they can get the credits from others
You can be on bench for long time
Very slow to approve your working expenses
    Not clear development room

    Advice to Management

Be honourable to tell the truth, and give your consultants opportunities to fall little, and progress more.
Open communication is key, exclusiveness is the poor management model.
Be nice to people contributed a lot, and not ignore it.
    Trust people to make decision.
You are not the teacher in the childcare, and we are all adults.

I worked at SMS Management & Technology full-time

    Pros

    - Car parking is paid for
    - Professional approach in treating employees (basic respect is given)

    Cons

    - Lack of subject matter expertise
    - Body shop central
    - Extreme pressure to find client role yourself (if thats the case I rather be an independent contractor)
-Lot of showmanship (no substance), lot of motivational talks that go nowhere
    - Not techical oriented
    - No projects, only individual roles. Therefore tenure is too short ..from a couple of weeks to a month max. No job security
    - Too much pressure to network within the organisation, no private time even on weekends, meetings held at SMS office location after client office hours
    - No support or direction from Managers (Managers are simply not qualified or competent)
    - Bench time (I guess it is because of over priced per hour billing to clients hence no consistent work coming your way)

    Advice to Management

    Stop being a wannabe consultantcy

    Pros

They have access to SOME interesting project roles at good companies.
Most consultants you meet will be quite sociable and intelligent.

    Cons

Salary lower than market, you're better off working in industry.

Practice leads are not productive, don't know what they are talking about and NOT friendly. You are expected to talk to them, tell them everything, go up to them and say hello every day on the bench, but they will NEVER approach you to do the same.

You have to interview for EVERY role you go to (they never told me this in the interview). They pretend they sell a service to companies, but it's really a body shop where they sell you as an individual.

When you're on the bench, it's basically a baby sitting service where they give you admin tasks or make up a task to keep you busy. They are not flexible (unless you're one of their favourite) for working remotely for a few days/a week even when you're on the bench. They just want you to sit there and be their assistant.

Finally, THERE IS NO JOB SECURITY. When the market dips, when you're on the bench and are not sold off in 2 weeks, you will feel the heat and feel the threat of a redundancy looming. Again, you're better off working in the industry.

    Pros

    - You can gain some good experience at some big clients.
    - The Melbourne location is superbly central.
    - Its pretty safe as long as you are consistently billing, its all about billing.
    - Football finals breakfast at the MCG is great.

    Cons

    - Management are completely focused on getting people off the bench, thats all.
    - Don't expect a pay raise.
    - They actually introduced a KPI for technology consultants based on sales.
    - The sales team were a shambles.(see point above).
    - The office computers and in particular laptops belong in museums.
    - If you have been billing for a long time and go back to the office, you feel really uncomfortable and its really all about how they can get you back out there asap.

    Advice to Management

Get real, you have lost so many good people.

    Pros

Great clients and great opportunities to work on interesting projects. Great collection of smart people that often want to help each other out.

    Cons

SMS does not have a clear strategy for survival, given the current conditions for IT services organisations. The organisation has been very resistant to change, with a core group of staff unwilling to change the way they have done things. Recent organisational changes do not inspire confidence that SMS has a bright future.

    Advice to Management

It's fine to recognise the heritage of the organisation, but be open to change. Be willing to hear new and fresh ideas. There is more to running the business than just utilisation...

    Pros

A great start if you are transitioning between roles and want to get some good client experience

    Cons

    Retention and morale handled badly
    Confused future direction and strategy.
Is a small player trying to compete with bigger tier one consultancies without the depth or process maturity.
Sink or swim mentality, bodyshopping still rife despite big talk of offering "solutions".

    Advice to Management

Being acquired might be the best thing for you, stop fighting it. You current value proposition is fading.

I worked at SMS Management & Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Varied clients for consulting
    -Friendly staff
-Nice office, but don't get too comfortable while on the bench
-Good venues for company Christmas parties/general meetings

    Cons

-No clear career progression within the company
-Consultants made to look for sales/opportunities instead of having them upskill while on the bench
-Consultant's performance based on extra after hours work for HQ, instead of client satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

    - Value current employees and upskill them rather than churning them out all the time.
    - Work/life balance is not so great when a consultant is expected to work at least 8 hours on client sites and also put in hours extra to help out at SMS office.
