    Pros

    Great people
    Good culture
    Good work life balance.
    Its a testament to their recruitment in that I have only had difficulty in working with one colleague.

    Cons

    Factions across business although that happens in any consulting firm. Less structured professional development for consultants

    Advice to Management

    Keep in contact with your teams on the ground. Insights from different levels can give a more rounded perspective on the job.

    Current uncertainty around acquisition bid by DWS - normal biz behaviour that should pass quickly.

    Advice to Management

    Treating the sales team as a defacto leadership team is giving only a one sided view of what is important to our clients and the SMS community. Widen your circle for a better understanding of your value proposition.

    I worked at SMS Management & Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    It was a great company with great people and a great culture

    Cons

    It has been purchased by DWS and will disappear from the corporate landscape

    Advice to Management

    The management tried to resurrect what was once great, but it was too late. SMS is an example of what can happen when the Board makes a poor CEO appointment. The one prior to Rostolis brought in her friends and destroyed the business, and did so under full view of the board.

    Pros

    Very clear realisation from CEO and management that positive change is required
    Great people and a dormant great culture within certain teams
    No better and no worse employee value proposition compared to smaller and bigger consulting company peers
    Learn and share experiences from client site with your peers (but you must personally want to get involved im the many kmowledge sharing avenues)

    Cons

    Very rocky past couple of years
    Have lost some great people
    Tired of rhetoric not being followed up with action

    Advice to Management

    Please please please follow up the promise of positive change by providing the space (i.e. freedom, time, support and communication channels) for senior employees, mentors and influencers to contribute to the uplift.

    Uplift - both cultural and also professional development opportunities. Employees need to feel valued amd supported.

    Pros

    Working with smart, dedicated, like-minded people. Variety of organisations and work.

    Cons

    Current lack of resources can make it difficult to get things organised in the office. Some people in Senior Management are not prepared to go beyond what they see as the limits of their role to ensure things are done properly, meaning consultants sometimes don't get the support they need on engagements.

    Advice to Management

    Invest more time considering what's needed from a consultant's point of view, to improve how engagements can be supported.

    Pros

    The management here in Queensland are supportive and engaged. The State Director stands behind the Diversity & Inclusion commitments of the company and puts his money where his mouth is - with a gender balanced management team, and the highest performing state in the company, I think we're proof that a strong Diversity & Inclusion focus has real performance boosting results for teams and organisations.

    Cons

    SMS has obviously been through some hard times with the previous CEO. They look to be on their way up, but there is some recovery to do in terms of employee engagement. Communication can be a little bit "through the grapevine" rather than formally addressing strategies and plans.

    Advice to Management

    Improve communication so consultants and capabilities can align to, and execute on, the company strategy. Keep up the awesome D&I work happening in QLD!

    Pros

    - An inclusive culture with real potential for significantly growing your career, if you put the effort in.
    - A solid strategy to stabilise the business and aim for growth.
    - Strong focus on having everyone client facing and billing (just like the Big 4).
    - Direct access to senior management is incredibly easy and encouraged.
    - Great diversity in the local leadership team and strategies in place to drive diversity nationally.

    Cons

    - After a few tough years with a CEO that destroyed the culture and sales activity it is taking a while to turn the momentum back to the positive.
    - If you are after a company where everything is handed to you easily and with a rigid process SMS is not the company for you.

    Advice to Management

    Keep working on the strategy, drive focus and reward and recognise our great culture and staff.

    Pros

    The Brisbane SMS team are collaborative by nature and a talented group of individuals with years of experience. SMS understands that work is only one aspect of our busy lives and is very supportive of women in the workforce and their commitments around family. I am eternally grateful for this support.

    Ensure you can identify, nurture, and reward talent appropriately. Constantly look inward to identify areas for improvement. Continue to draw on the talented individuals in-house to improve core business offerings. Focus on improving knowledge management systems to benefit both clients and the company.
