I have been working at SNC-Lavalin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Its a paycheck - coworkers are good people.

    Cons

They are shutting down all the manufacturing locations for production equipment and compression and forcing a move to Sealy, TX. Its been the wish of some management to be under one roof and they are forcing it down the employees throats. It will be a train wreck. It will be a terrible commute. You are a number that is easily replaced.

    Advice to Management

Everyone is feeling burned. I am putting my review under SNC since the Valerus page will not garner much attention. Go look at the trends for ratings on the Valerus page. Down, down, down. This move is being forced down our throat. Its being rushed. Favors are being cast for management with who can stay at the corporate location and who is having to increase their commute and drive to the shop. My opinion, this is a perfect setup to spin off the one fabrication branch that SNC inherited.

I have been working at SNC-Lavalin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Benefits, Culture, Work Life/Balance

    Cons

Company moving manufacturing out of Louisiana to Texas, more job losses associated with downturn in oil sector.

    Advice to Management

It would benefit some long term employees if this company allowed employees flexibility to work from home in order to continue employment.

    I worked at SNC-Lavalin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has a good outlook and idea, but lacks significant exposure in the oil and gas industry as an EPC. Treats employees well and engineering is well structured for growth.

    Cons

Lack of exposure to the EPC industry in oil and gas. Bidding against other EPC giants is quite difficult to undercut them and engineering abilities are limited. The company has a great outlook but it is sure to be long term (10+ years) before there's ability to compete against CB&I, KBR, Jacobs etc

    Advice to Management

Keep moving forward and avoid high turnover of employees. Invest in the young engineers to carry the company forward.

    I worked at SNC-Lavalin full-time

    Pros

The accounting department at SNC Constructors Inc was pleasant and enjoyable. The employees were overall happy and management were easy to work with.

    Cons

Due to the nature of business, it's either feast or famine. During the famine part of my employment, tensions were high and employees were double-crossing one another. The company ended up laying off 30 employees, but this is the norm when cash flow is hindered due to delays in contracts and government permits. Corporate also has a tight leash over this branch.

    Advice to Management

I don't really have any. I enjoyed my time at SNC and the president was a really nice guy.

None that I can think of. They don't listen to the experienced people they hire. They depend on people that have no knowledge.
