Weak leadership, chaotic environment, little room for promotion or growth, job stability is constantly in question, slow growth in t&d which limits longevity, constantly under fire for missing unattainable goals sold by upper management

      Pros

chance for OT if you or hourly.

      Cons

No bonuses at all- shop or office workers. No raises unless you leave and come back. Everyone has heard that upper management n Houston said if people dont want to be there they can leave and we will find someone who wants to be there. glad they care. management doesnt get it - been a mess in sealy... quick 2 fire.

I enjoyed working here - but politics and bad attitudes abound!

      Pros

SOME great people work here. Depending on who you work with/for, they are pretty flexible so that work/life balance can be achieved (i.e. daycare drop off/pick-up - some let you make up the hours at home if the schedules don't jive. But not everyone....some are time-nazis and watch you like a hawk - calling you out if you are even 2 minutes late). Also - I like(d) Bob Card as CEO. SNC needed it.

      Cons

There are a lot of really angry people it seems. They say/do things that are certainly not professional, HR knows it, yet no one does anything. Maybe because they are upper management - or they are afraid of them too - but depending on what unit/division you are with, you may find some pretty knarly people. Also, there is still an "Old Boys Club" mentality in some of the units, particularly Mining & Metals. Have actually heard comments about women not good on projects/sites and they shouldn't be in Mining. Other divisions - always treated with respect regarding gender equality.

Great learning / work experience especially to build up your career.

      Cons

Senior upper Management does not care about employees, more concerned about there bonuses, and bringing in there friends. Very Top heavy.

Great Experience - Bad Upper Management

      Jul 12, 2015 -

      Pros

Working at SNC-Lavalin gave me great insight into the world of consulting, and I gained some hard skills from them like report writing, proposal writing, field work, lab work, etc. However, I think that you could get these skills working for any of the competitors. The real strength was the people employed at my location. They were what kept me there. I found myself in a lot of stressful situations, which I actually look at now as a pro, due to my stepping up in the conflict resolution department and learning to stand up for myself. The ethics hotline is great, and the yearly reviews are very helpful- they also contribute to relationship development between department heads and team members.

      Cons

This company does a poor job of showing its employees that they are valued. Communication between management and department heads / regular employees, as well as upper management and the various branches is not a strong point. When i found myself looking for support, my immediate HR representative did a great job, but above that, things were disappointing. There are far too many middle men in the administration and finance departments, which complicates things for the billable employees trying to do their jobs.

Morale amongst long term employees is depressing

      Pros

Job security (as long as you are not on a project) and internal job postings available before posted to the public. Support teams (administrative, finance, IT, facility services) are amazing and very helpful.

      Cons

Compensation/annual wage increases (0.5-2% average over last 8 years due to "company performance" if you are not in upper management and receiving bonuses) Work/life balance while working on a project is not great (one project I worked on, staff worked 10+ hour days and felt they couldn't charge OT or leave before 7pm)

Good place to gain experience THAT IS ALL

      Mar 1, 2016 -  in Vancouver, BC

      Pros

Projects are big in scope and as a result more opportunity to expose yourself to different challenges. Good place to gain experience. That's it if you can last long enough.

      Cons

Very arrogant and egotistic managers. Unrealistic expectation of employees without proper career/training investment Managers use vocal fear to control employees. No reward for work accomplished unless you are on the management level or personal friends with managers. Upper management has a buddy system where everyone covers each ones back as long as you are on each other's good side. LARGE procurement contracts are a joke because contract specifications are written as to accommodate one vendor. Managers learn by mistake and get away with it as oppose to regular staff who are penalized. Large sums of spending is done by upper management (work travel, food, accommodation, petty cash) and often nothing is left over for the employees. Salary is not competitive with lots of good employees jumping ship unless you have been working many years and have friends in management. Fake professionals that hide behind people with corporate authorities.

Management does not take responsibility for their lack of training and expect their employees to pick up the slack.

      Pros

The company provides Good pay, and benefits. The people that work there try to do their best with little help from upper management. Clean offices.

      Cons

Constant change in upper management. Employees do not get a lot of support from upper management. No work processes in place new employees have to ask other workers and they may get the process wrong because there is no standardization and every employee does it their way. Old boys network in workplace, women with the same position get stuck with the administration. Also only looking at projects in with the Big Pay cheques i.e. Middle East Oil &Gas instead of how they can keep their employees employed. Do not want spend money on IT still in the 1990
