I have been working at SPS Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay is fair if you can stay long enough. Employees are friendly and helpful. Room for advancement due to attrition.

    Cons

Management merry-go-round. Every year or so, the management shuffles. Goals are always fluid except for "make us lots of money". Some tactics are very heavy handed. Short sighted goals. Management seems to be pushing for "outsourcing product" as opposed to making "in house". Advancement is not always on "merit".

    Advice to Management

Pick a plan and stick to it. The employees in the shop get frustrated with the changing goals.

I have been working at SPS Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are on par or better to similar companies
    Office positions are relatively stable.
Opportunities internally to move throughout the PCC organization

    Cons

The culture. There is no sense of belonging at this company. A job here is exactly what is means -- it is simply a job. Though some may find a career at PCC in the long term, for the majority of people this place is just a stepping stone for other other opportunities. Many of the jobs are filled by Temps which is understandble by the company to save money. However, when temps are treated as such, this is not condusive to a positive work atmosphere. With the constant outflow of talent, it's hard to become invested in the company. No matter what the pay is, one needs something deeper besides money to perform at their best

Understaffed overall when it comes to full-time staff. You are required to play many different hats that may fall outside your job description

    Advice to Management

Take stock in your employees and invest in your employees for success. If employees have no ownership in their work or are not invested in the company, I believe it is difficult for a company to run at 100%. Employees who care will be less error prone, work harder, and at the end of the day be better performers and stick around for the long haul

    Pros

Easy work and simple jobs. Decent pay and benefits. If you know what you're doing and have a strong skill set, it's easy to look like a hero in this place. Good group of people in my department on 2nd shift including the group leader made it a decent place to work. I really did not mind the job itself. Big company with a very interesting 100+ year history.

    Cons

Eternally stuck on 2nd or 3rd shift. Hot in the summer. Lack of maintenance on machines and lack of maintenance personnel to service the equipment. A lot of disorganization with machine tooling which made set ups way more time consuming than they should have been. You could literally lose hours hunting down bushings, drills, jaw pads, centers, etc. Sever lack of advancement opportunities from within. After PCC took them over, nobody in their right mind would desire to be promoted from an hourly position on the floor into a salaried management roll unless you actually wanted to make less money, work more hours, and get fired for not making production goals.

    Advice to Management

Learn some people skills and give those that are skilled workers a chance to advance themselves. Your only cheating yourselves by not doing that. Good people don't stay in dead end positions with no advancement opportunites.

    Pros

Steady overtime, health insurance, peanut butter and jelly sanwiches in the vending machines.

    Cons

Everything else...stupid managment, stupid HR dept..non existant safety enforcement...for example, supervisor without safety glasses talking to a machine operator without safety glasses between 8 running machines,25 percent of all production shot down for quality issues, but okay with quality engineers who are also a joke.filthy dirty building with crumbling main structure.etc, etc horrific place to work.

    Advice to Management

Go find a job at the zoo because you can shovel manure better than the average blue collar guy and you should pay your parents back all of your college tuition, because you wasted their money, any manager who would promote a 5 year employee with no clue over a 35 yr knowledgeable setup man should not have a job in any industry let alone an aerospace company, the ony way to get promoted here is to cozy up to your boss, experience and hard work don't count.

    Pros

There is absolutely nothing good to say about this place. On face value it looks like there is its of opportunity to make a difference. The place is unsafe, dirty, and morale is non-existent. But they are not interested in changing that. They tell you in the interview, that they will show you nothing and within a week you or an a verbal Butt kicking from the VP. Noting like it!

    Cons

This company eats managers fro breakfast. They had 6 or 7 when I was there. None are still, and this is the norm. Stay away

    Advice to Management

    go somewhere else

I have been working at SPS Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay is about it. Health benefits blow but 401 is good. Short distance of travel to and from work. Painted new lines in parking lot.

    Cons

Quality is out the window. Some employees knowingly run bad parts just to get the hours to look good. Managment is only concerned about how many hours you turn in. Example: toolroom personnel 200%(16 hours). Fellow workers refuse to do jobs in toolroom and get away it on daily basis leaving just 2 or 3 to actually do it. New employee ignores supervisor and group leader and just does what he wants when he wants and manager doesn't care. Hiredto do a certain job and decides he doesn't like it. OT is now reduced because he runs others work off instead of his own. Never checks what work he does but god forbid if you don't check your own work. You lose two seconds using a gage I guess. 2 department rats that turn others in for just about anything. Machines are junk. Some date back to WW2! Need umbrella when it rains, inside the building! You can not smoke in building but it is ok to breathe in to smoke from burning oils and such that come of machines do to poor ventilation. Funny ain't it?

    Advice to Management

Start caring about quality instead of quanity. Stop with the drinking buddy mentality and do your job and others will do theirs. If they don't want to do their job get rid of them. It isn't fair to those who want to work.
