    Pros

Decent Pay with job security. Flexible schedule

    Cons

Management team is very weak. Clicks everywhere.

    Advice to Management

Allow people who work their butts off to move up the ladder and do a way with the "good ole' boy" system.

I have been working at SPX full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting work, decent pay and benefits, good people.

    Cons

No bonuses in recent years. SPX may be doing well as our parent company, but Genfare isn't.

Laid off a lot of very experienced people recently, and replaced them with teams of youngsters right out of college.

    Advice to Management

Value the experience of the people you have left who have been there a while. Some of the people you laid off are worth 2-3 of the younger, cheaper employees you replaced them with.

I worked at SPX full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Variety of activities/issues, never a dull day. Opportunities to learn different functionalities with both software and hardware, and to interface with various groups (production, development, electrical/mechanical engineers, and product/project managers

    Cons

Profits mostly dependent on government controlled transit customers, hence delays from customers affect bottom line. There is also lack of standard/consistent methodology in the development and testing cycles.

I worked at SPX full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, Good work/life balance, Decent benefits, Great team members in the Feeder Focus Factory.

    Cons

*Lack of communication of goals and outlook from Senior management.
*Heavily manual manufacturing processes (people dependent).
*Departments work in silos and have separate agendas, which makes it difficult to accomplish tasks in cross-functional teams.
*Lack of diversity/inclusion; I was often (about every 2 weeks) confused as another woman who worked at SPX because we were the same race and worked in the office areas (uncomfortable and disappointing).
*BAD MANAGERS IN SOME AREAS - my manager had control issues, micromanaged, focused on his personal agendas (always his way) rather than the agenda best for the organization. He often missed the big picture, and consistently bullied and disrespected employees/co-workers in meetings...definitely not a team player! He also supported and instructed unethical quality practices such as switching serial number plates on purchased parts :-(

    Advice to Management

*Focus on establishing clear, yet realistic, overarching goals for the organization so that department and individual goals are clearly align to them
*Ensure that managers are team players, fair, ethical, and don't abuse power.
*Focus on diversity and inclusion as an organization.

    Pros

    Good people to work with.
Decent benefits and work life balance.

    Cons

Seems management does not have vision or they are not able to communicate properly.
No long term goals for upper management so all the decisions they make are for short term to make their yearly targets. Then they move making others lives miserable with their decisions. No metric to hold them accountable for long term impact.
Metrics keep changing every year no continuity.
No project management approach to any projects.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to make transformers for next 30 years then invest in technology, have a long term vision and make hard decisions.

    Pros

the flexibility and personal freedom that SPX allowed was nice. Taking time away to go to kids school or doctors appointments was always welcomed without question.

    Cons

too many decision makers throughout the organization. objectives and direction were changed regularly without any clear communication. needed to keep records of every conversation over email.....CYA was a must

    Advice to Management

Sounds like the company is splitting into separate business units which should add some defined lines for communication and leadership.
