    Negative Outlook

I have been working at SPX full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There's always work to do because they understaff the company. Upper management is vastly uneducated.

    Cons

1- No work/life balance - prepare to never see your family or have time for anything outside of work. When you're not working, the nerve damage keeps you in bed. No time to see your doctor, and even if you need to see a doctor they make you see their company doctor, who is biased. I've seen people break bones at work & management won't let them leave work until the shift is over.

2- Speaking of safety, there is none. They preach about safety all day long but when you work people in 10-12 hour shifts 7 days a week, you can't expect safe practices. People are tired mentally and physically, not to mention the lack of having a personal life kills a person's spirit. You grow old without living and for what? To be laid off unexpectedly.

3- HR is a joke. She has no management skills, actually no skills required in human resources. It's impossible to get anything done. But, her attitude and practices align with the rest of management, solidifying management as the losers from 7th grade.

4- You are expendable. There is no opportunity for growth and nobody cares how much you've dedicated to the company. They make it very known that you're just another number. Their "employee appreciation" meals are a joke & their tone is condescending at best.

    Advice to Management

Go for a college degree - either in business, finance, human resources, communications, etc - there are lots of fields available nowadays. If that's too hard, maybe work on cars or make jewelry with your time. None of you have any idea of how to run a business.

As for the CEO, try the popular middle-class favorite, Undercover Boss. It'll humble you.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at SPX full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Good pay. Nice people to work with. No concerns about the union environment.

    Cons

Toxic culture. Leadership lives in a bubble. Erratic strategic direction from corporate. Poor timing and execution on huge expansion to get into large power. Left the company with excess capacity and poor profits. Very unstable. Chaotic. Not a fun place to work.

    Advice to Management

Treat people like you actually trust them. Stop the lip service and platitudes and just tell the truth. We are not children, stop treating us like this.

    Pros

Nothing of note other than some of the people.

    Cons

Awful training, managers don't know anything about the actual work, do not understand basic business practices.

    Advice to Management

Learn what the people who actually do the word do. You can't manage the people without knowing the work processes

    Pros

the flexibility and personal freedom that SPX allowed was nice. Taking time away to go to kids school or doctors appointments was always welcomed without question.

    Cons

too many decision makers throughout the organization. objectives and direction were changed regularly without any clear communication. needed to keep records of every conversation over email.....CYA was a must

    Advice to Management

Sounds like the company is splitting into separate business units which should add some defined lines for communication and leadership.
