I have been working at SSA & Company full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great company, remote working is not a problem, HR support excellent, expenses not an issue, IT support and equipment superb. Feel valued with weekly invites to conference calls

    Cons

Maybe better insites to what other opportunities the company holds, what new business we are going for, other than that a good company

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

I worked at SSA & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flat organization; ability to quickly increase responsibility; small project teams; high caliber of people

    Cons

Project staffing decisions can sometimes be out of your hands due to the size of the firm and the need to staff an upcoming project

I worked at SSA & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work is very interesting and the skills you pick up are attractive to other companies. High-level mentors gladly take time out of their busy schedules to walk you through an analysis or teach you broader Six Sigma concepts.

    Cons

The work-life balance is rough. Projects are scoped with weekly deadlines, so you have to work 7am-11pm mostly every day. You frequently do not get to eat dinner, as the manager keeps putting it off until it's too late. This schedule is seen as "normal" by managers and you do not get any acknowledgement or appreciation. It is also not flexible - I have had to cancel plans and even doctors appointments frequently because the manager will give you grief for stepping out.

    Advice to Management

    - Think about workload when scoping projects
    - Try not to staff a combination of local and traveling resources to a project (those who travel in have different priorities and schedules than those who are local)
    - Track the hours that people put in their staffing sheets and step in when people seem to be working long days for a period of time
    - Make it the norm to expense dinner if you stay after 7:30 and a cab home if you stay past 10:30
    - Provide more manager training
    - Encourage managers to have conversations with each of their team members at the beginning of the project about work styles, concerns, and scheduling

I have been working at SSA & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - The pragmatic and driven people
    - The humility of the senior leaders and mutual respect for skills among everyone provide a solid foundation for teamwork.
    - Consultants not only contribute but own work products from Day 1

    Cons

Little name recognition from new clients and peers, but those who do know SSA & Company speak highly (e.g., significant amount of repeat business at clients).

I worked at SSA & Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some of the smartest people (at the operations level) I have ever worked with. For the most part there is latitude to grow your expertise across multiple business types/focus.

    Cons

Work/life balance is disastrous. When all a company has to sell is their IP (people) then it is a resource that needs to be cherished. Some senior management are inclined to protect their back and as a result misstate truths to enable their personal G&O's.

    Advice to Management

Treat the populace like a rare treasure - it is all you have. The product is a commodity. Mgmt needs to decide what they want to be when they grow up. Have had multiple changes (directional) over past decade that have not necessarily strengthened the organization.

I have been working at SSA & Company full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Culture: The people are incredibly smart but are friendly, approachable and don't have sharp elbows whatsoever. I came from a large investment bank, and the culture here is a hugely positive breath of fresh air. There is no red tape. It's truly a flat organization where you can walk into an MD's office as a junior employee and have your voice heard and ideas executed. The people are supportive and collaborative.

Firm outlook: The company has been growing at a tremendous speed, and there are constantly new projects and new people coming on board to support all of the growth

Work Life Balance: It's been incredible coming from financial services. The hours are reasonable, and they're really flexible about working from home when needed.

Compensation: Excellent--definitely tend to be on the higher side compared to other consulting firms

    Cons

I haven't had any challenges so far. It's honestly been an incredible experience so far.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

I have been working at SSA & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Their boutique size gives them a great advantage in the market. They have a wonderful grouping of highly intelligent individuals who are capable of great work for the company and the brand. They ask for feedback constantly and are pleasant overall.

    Cons

They have a top heavy structure. The culture is passive-aggressive. Raises are not truly merit based. Their economic structure is unstable. They are in dire need of an internal reorganization. Work-life balance is unattainable at any level.

    Advice to Management

Be open to change. Consider obtaining real leadership skills. Restructure internal processes to fit your size. Take better care of your human capital. Reduce your level of turn-over.

I have been working at SSA & Company full-time

    Pros

In an industry filled with brutal environments and a lack of collaboration, this place is special. The people are equal parts brilliant/impressive and also down to earth and fun. Throughout the growth, the leadership has managed to maintain this culture.

They also apply the concept of continuous improvement to themselves, so the work is always striving to be cutting edge and new.

    Cons

None that I can think of.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

    Pros

Very positive, optimistic, open and honest culture. Treat their employees with respect. Intellectually curious. Good diverse age group composition.

    Cons

Typical of consulting firms, dispersed teams represent a challenge to stay "connected".

    Advice to Management

    Have bi-monthly company calls.
