I have been working at STERIS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Very good work life balance

    Cons

The highest level of management is not qualified. They don't stretch themselves or their employees. They surround themselves with their friends instead of highly qualified employees. High potential employees don't last as the pace is too slow. No accountability required. Executives who miss plan are not removed. This company will be sold and profits will soar.

    Advice to Management

Hold your executives accountable. Figure out what your strategy is and execute it. Overhaul your executive staff.

I have been working at STERIS full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Attempting to globalize by purchasing and incorporating foreign and domestic companies.

    Cons

    Union type work for Non Union pay (Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical); high turnover in corporate office; micro management steadily on the uprise; company under FDA scrutinization; primarily all manufacturing is done outside of USA;

    Advice to Management

Stop using the excuse that the shareholders drive the company and instead think about your employees

I worked at STERIS full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed their benefit package while I worked there but I understand it changed after I left to the standard high deductible offered most places these days.
    Free coffee.
Job satisfaction: worked with emerging technologies.
    Manageable workload.
I was fine with the pay but others were not.

    Cons

    No flexibility in schedule.
    Poor work life balance.
    Poor management.
    Zero project management.
    Dress Code.
    Low morale.
    Little room for advancement.
    Poor training.

It seems as though mangagement is picked from the existing employees. They take their best person and make them the manager. Not only does this reduce the quality and output of the work being done, it does not guarantee you are actually placing someone into mangagement who would be a good manager.

    Advice to Management

The current way your performance is determined seems to have little to do with your compensation. Figure out how to do reviews based on performance. Measure your employees proficiency in their position.

    Pros

Hours are first shift. Overtime is available. Ok place to work.

    Cons

No benefits for temps. You are treated as a number and that's all. Very little appreciation by management. They will hire you to work second shift and take a huge pay cut.

I worked at STERIS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I had a Great District Manager when i resigned and many positive professional relationships with my customers

    Cons

Culture evolved to a poor work vs family time environment, for many in the field. The volume of work in relation to the healthcare industry and the safety concerns of that environment can be overwhelming.

    Advice to Management

Increase starting pay to attract capable field techs

    I worked at STERIS full-time

    Pros

The staff is friendly and it is a pleasant place to work. Your colleagues are very helpful and are always able to support you on projects and other tasks assigned.

    Cons

Management seems inept and promotions which were given at my time of leave seemed to be undeserving. Many people were left out to dry while others were left with a sinking ship. The company continues to purchase other companies, while is unable to develop its own products.
