I worked at STERIS (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Benefits, PTO, cafe, gym, location

    Cons

Upper and lower management are horrible. How can you take someone with no management experience of someone with 20 plus years of experience? Processes are constantly changing. Communication is horrible. No run for growth. Favoritism at its best.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing the buddy game and hire real qualified people with experience and knowledge

I have been working at STERIS (Less than a year)

    Pros

Large company growing exponentially fast. Very fast paced environment, lots of work to be done and lots of ways to get involved. Also has a gym at HQ

    Cons

Managers need more training on how to manage and lead. Don't always value their employees and how much they do for them

    Advice to Management

Hire more women to Senior positions, get with the times. Thank everyone in the Corporation not just top level executives.

I worked at STERIS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good benefits package. Competitive compensation.

    Cons

Upper management only listens what it wants to hear. Very discriminatory. Be more proactive with training with middle management and provide what it means to direct employees. Investigate first before jumping into conclusions.

    Advice to Management

Supervisors should have more management role rather than just babysitting employees. Give them more authority to make decisions and coverages, it will make your job easier Operators should have more chances to have management roles too and provide more leverage when it comes to advancement.

I worked at STERIS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast pace, demanding position. Gained an incredible amount of experience in that most companies cannot compare to the diversity that I was involved in. Very stable company with good pay and benefits.

    Cons

Too slow in rolling out new products. STERIS tends to over engineer the products, making them obsolete before rolling them out. Middle management is always so concerned about covering themselves, which constitutes counterproductivity. Marketing department pays low, therefore cannot attract the top candidates. It is a constant revolving door.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the hard workers and reward them, not penalize them.

    Cons

The pay is not really competitive. Lack of documentation. Too many software defects from the developers. The process is not very well defined. You have to wing it sometimes.

    Advice to Management

To set a better process, Improve testings. Better structure. Documentation documentation documentation. Need more resources in the group to execute the duties

I worked at STERIS full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and insurance benefits. Company provided vehicle. Tools were supplied. Adequate initial and continuing training was provided. Great engineering phone support for techs in the field.

    Cons

Too few techs for area. Long hours often necessary but OT was discouraged (draw your own conclusions). Advancement opportunities bottle neck at DSM level. Too much contract retention was being shifted from sales to service.

    Advice to Management

Try harder to retain good techs. HR should pay more attention to large numbers of techs quitting in a district in a short time. 20+ year employees don't quit when the DSM is doing his job well.
