I worked at STERIS full-time for more than a year

    Pros

For a certain person, this is a great company with stability. Job expectations were clearly defined. Benefits were great. Really great work/life balance. You leave your job at the door.

    Cons

The culture is old fashioned. The pay was not good and the opportunity for growth felt strangely nonexistent. Customer service is not necessarily a path to growth within the company.

I have been working at STERIS full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great People to work with, great products, great market

    Cons

Not results oriented. Employees with real measurable results should be promoted and rewarded. Hard to find accountable leaders.

    Advice to Management

Please stop promoting people that agree with everything that you say. Not a good culture for long term success. Please insist in YOY improvements, not excuses. Example: Manufacturing Results

I have been working at STERIS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Large company with a lot of resources. The name is synonymous with quality & reliability most of the time. Company stands behind it products. Great job for someone new in sales, however training is weak.

    Cons

Manipulation of the quotas and sales numbers. Don't value one of their most important assets the sales force. If you live in a top 20 cities you will need another income for your household. Compensation & salary based on Midwest cost of living.

    Advice to Management

Saving your way to a $2B company doesn't make you strong. Being innovative, reinvesting in your markets and employees does. Properly Incentives your sales force. You will be surprised how much more profitable the company can be if your total cost of goods sold increased. Competition is always a good thing. It forces us to do our best. A poor comp plan (incentives) renders people complacent and satisfied with... mediocrity. Explain in detail how you derived the new FY sales plan. Lastly, be honest.

Very friendly and safe job with this growing company. Not a lot of pressure since there is a large product portfolio and easy ability to gain access to facilities.

    Cons

Service hiring is not carful so you as a sales rep are spending some time fixing issues with service.

    Advice to Management

    Service needs to be improved

I worked at STERIS full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great place to work and fantastic products. Leadership usually appears to be I'm touch with what is needed for new products being introduced in the market place. Company values are fantastic "do the right thing". Customers are always first. Benefits and compensation are very competitive if not superior.

    Cons

They have very un-realistic sales goals. They have managers that are not managers but drones who don't have a spine or can't stand up to Managment and tell them what is needed or sales goals that are out of whack. Compensation is fine and competitive and benefits are great.

    Advice to Management

Stop getting rid of your experienced sales rep when they get to the age of 50. A guy or gal spends there LIFE away from their family on projects, traveling and bringing in a tremendous amount or business for the company only to be let go when the reach the golden age because there was not a big project in their area to carry them through. You have let go some real talent. Some have been lucky enough to go find... Job with your competition. You sit in your big offices looking at your spread sheets and cutting some real good folks just because your managers don't have the balls to stand up and say NO! Certainly if your looking for a good job you can put your life into and then plan on retiring there KEEP looking because they will cut your job and hire a fresh out of college dude they can hire for less.

    Pros

Name brand recognition, good manufacturing practices, good technical support great field service.

    Cons

Sales goals are quite often unrealistic based on market trends and economic upheavals.

    Advice to Management

Set sales goals more realistically by using forecasts provided by the field reps and verify facts by checking with customers.

I have been working at STERIS full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I'm not sure there are any pro's...most of the folks who are not in management are wonderful people, but management is a complete debacle with limited potential.

    Cons

No opportunity for upward mobility, zero internal support and product development, minimal training or support for sales force, inexperienced leadership, unclear company direction, compensation packages that are unjustified compared to day-to-day duties and responsibilities, terrible work/life balance and unrealistic expectations. Only consider Steris if its a last resort and you've exhausted all other job... searches.
