I worked at STERIS full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay is comparable to other companies, decent benefits, free coffee, clean work environment.

    Cons

Management with zero people skills, looking to micromanage and be on a power trip and not listening to their employees. Management will ask for the opinion of their employees, but will not take any of what they said into account and then make changes that negatively impact the department regardless of the opinions of the people that the changes will actually affect. Sometimes just because someone has management... experience, it does not mean they will be a good fit for a department and STERIS often does not promote the correct people to internal positions. They are more likely to hire external candidates just because someone has more experience on paper than to promote an excellent internal employee with the leadership mentality. There are more incompetent people than competent and the people who are good at their job are not given any incentive to keep working hard. The HR department is also very unhelpful and make it clear that they do not care at all about the employees' concerns. Also, no opportunity to work from home.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who will actually be good managers. Stop micromanaging. Get on board with allowing people to work from home occasionally. STERIS was a great place to work in the past, but now the environment and culture is changing and they really do not care about keeping the good employees around.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

most management has improved in my facility, only advice if your manager is a butt.. move departments or plant yourself until they get replaced, good changes are made when results come over time.

I have been working at STERIS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interesting and clean work environment. Management doesn’t look over your shoulder all the time. Consistent but not overwhelming work load.

    Cons

Management is not aware of complexity of job responsibilities. Job promotions are few and far between. Therefore career advancement is slim.

    Advice to Management

    Consider employee incentives.

I worked at STERIS full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They do a really good job of selling themselves in the interview. Compensation and benefits are good, however depending on the department you're you will be miserable or somewhat miserable.

    Cons

Toxic culture! Be prepared to be set up for failure from day 1. Playing politics is the norm and if you not like it or play into it you will fall into the black sheep clique. Heavily micromanaged to the point where someone is literally looking over your shoulder. This has created a petty good dog bad dog work environment. You will be bullied, belittled, and told your incompetent. Other employees have said "I... didn't think I would survive but you'll get used to it, this is just how it is". Certain leaders in VHP microbiology will be nice to your face but around upper management will make you seem incompetent. If you are not liked, you will be told half and or misleading information to make you look inept. In others words, they will build a case against you to get rid of you if you don't beat them to it. Getting on the good side involves brown nosing and telling on other employees. Employees are fake and genuinely miserable except for a few good ones that try to do the right thing. HR is for the companies best interest so do not even bother standing up for yourself as its your word against management. Management has been around 15+ years so it's they're way or the highway. Petty culture and favoritism is abound. You will be told your sweater is not part of the dress code but other direct reports can wear hoodies. The manager's pet will go behind your back and say things the manager wants to hear to make themselves look good. This is a large company but I have heard similar stories from former and current employees. Best to stay away.

    Advice to Management

The way employees are treated is abusive. Stop using harassing bullying tactics and threatening vague statements. This builds an untrustworthy atmosphere and its why employees switch to different departments. This management style has created a toxic culture and environment. It is quite a shame.

    I worked at STERIS full-time

    Pros

-Solid working environment -Has every tool/parts you need for anything

    Cons

I would never trust a soul in the wharehouse rack room department. Was an extremely uncomfortable experience dealing with certain people in an "unsafe" environment. It's also not diversified

    Advice to Management

Managers don't know what's going on in the workplace. I would advise you to get to know the truth
