    I worked at STM full-time

    Pros

Salary is not bad compared to other companşes in the same city but it depends how you bargain at the beginning.

    Cons

STM generally hires the employers to government offices and does not take care about what is going on.

    Advice to Management

Be more flexible about changing departments up to employer requests.

    Pros

    Social advantages
    Pension funds
    Vacancy days + sick days
    Salary

    Cons

    Bad management
    Dictatorship
    No recognization
Advancement isn't as easy as they describe it to be
Feels like you are just a number in this company
    No challenges
Management plays cat and dog with the employees and vice versa
They adopting a hard line on things that don't matter instead of taking care of things that actually do matter
You have no power to change anything, you're opinion is not valued and they never take the time to consult you on decisions that have impacts on you. If they do, it's only to be able to say they consulted you but your points will not be considered. They do it just to look good.
They divide the employees by their management instead of uniting them.
Often, the environment of work is not healthy.
No transparency. They make sure to hide the information or they only leak it slowly slowly. Often they will lie because they are not transparent.
They tell employees in big meetings to follow the procedures but when it's time to work they hate it when you follow them. But if you don't and you have an accident, they suspend you without pay before the investigation is done.
They have the worst crisis management I have ever seen.

    Advice to Management

A lot of work to be done on the human side of it. The operational management should all have a formation on how to approach employees and how to deal with conflicts. They are really bad at managing crisis so they should seriously think on how to improve the way they handle problems, conflicts, crisis, etc. They should involve employees more and make sure the information flow is excellent. Hiding information is not really a good way to manage. They should involve the employees in a more serious manner not just for the sake of saying we consulted you. Employee's opinion are heard but have no impact ever. Actually, they should just work on all the cons I wrote.

    Neutral Outlook
    Approves of CEO

    Pros

    - Very good compensation (metro pass paid, high base salary)
    - Projects involve public transportation in Montreal which is very interesting
    - A lot of nice co-workers
    - Good work/life balance
    - Managers are usually very friendly, flexible and open minded

    Cons

    - No dress code, many employees arrive at work with inapropriate clothing which is embarrassing
    - Very unionized, a lot of time waste and management do nothing because of the union
    - Performance is not encouraged enough (projects are completed too slowly)
    - Do not invest enough in technology (Old IT systems, no collaboration tools for employees, old telephony system, no teleworking)
    - Missing a lot of processes and strategy in IT
    - Office of the IT Service is very old and does not look great

    Advice to Management

Dress code, better IT Strategy and processes, more investment in IT Systems. Management should make sure employees are performing at work. Union does not mean giving the right to employees
to not perform at work. Make sure the IT office is a great place for employees to work.
