    Pros

Historically, they've treated their employees with respect and fairness under the management of Pasqualli Pistorio. They've respected the environment and tried to enact policies to protect it and recycle anywhere possible. The company has been an aggressive leader in this respect. One of the top ten Semiconductor companies in the world.

    Cons

They are divesting their American manufacturing operations and moving everything overseas to China and Singapore. There will be no more manufacturing operations in the United States when this is completed. The target date for completion is June 2009, but it could come much sooner.

    Advice to Management

The new CEO is in my opinion, untried and moving to divest or consolidate most of their manufacturing base. I would advise him to not rely too heavily on one success road-map. The off ramp may not be what or where you're you're expecting it to be. I think entirely giving up the U.S. presence is a mistake that will be paid for later.

    Pros

decent pay, good benefits. The european culture give you a lot vacation time. Awesome place if you want to get paid for not doing much.

    Cons

internal Politics. Company is heavily europe centric and building an empire is high on every managers list. Too many people doing too little work.

    Advice to Management

Reduce company's dependence on the euro. Don't try to improve the company's bottom line by keeping business expenses low.

    Pros

It is generally a pleasant place to work and co-workers tend to be interesting individuals.

The 401K and health benefits package is good and inexpensive.

The site cafeteria is very good, and cheap.

They are good about keeping new-ish computers and other tools updated for people to use.

Considering the chemicals used in making semiconductors, the safety is very good.

    Cons

Managers: Runs the gamut from great professionals to petty tyrants. The company culture does not seem to cultivate any uniformity there. Roll the dice.

Vacation: They call the vacation package "flexible time off", but ST forces employees to take many hours/days of vacation at arbitrary times in a quarterly effort to make the books look good, even when the employees do not want to take off and do not have to take off for business reasons. Disciplinary action is threatened in writing against those who resist.

    Advice to Management

For a Fench-Italian company operating 2 plants in the USA, moving all the plant operations offshore to China and dumping 2000 Americans on the street is not the way to grow business in the USA.

    Pros

pay check, easy job, employee oriented company, good benefits and lot of free time

    Cons

no personal grow, low tech company, no knowledge sharing, too many employees working on the same stuff, no development, most of the development/support is based in India and that sucks

    Advice to Management

    get people motivated

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

    Relatively stress free environment
Minimal OT - Great place to stay if you are thinking of studying/working part time at night
Management takes on a bottom up approach, every one's opinion is appreciated

    Cons

Pace maybe too slow for highly charged fresh grads
Stingy company - do not expect any great benefits
Salary and other cash incentives lags behind rival companies of same industry
Things (work, ideas, people) take forever to move or materialize
    Monotonous work
'Messy' company, every department comes up with procedures that contradict other departments' procedures

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to out talk each other, listen and work together
Managers from different units could talk more to workers from other units, let workers get a feel of what the other unit is like and how they work. Repetition of work/contradictions could be avoided

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

as long experience will bring you easier working enviornment; ST is ranking No 1 in Europe still, has solid fab and key ctm relationship. European company won't lay off people very often, especially in ST, you won't feel high pressure.

    Cons

internal politics, management not clear direction discourage people work here. Strong internal relationship also make the company not very professional. the org is not stable these years, it's hard to have focus from all parties, and plus internal conflicts play important role, it is just difficult to make things. you will always see the real hard worker never get right treatment, and the best speaker can always get best reward.

    Advice to Management

empower right person, improve efficiency of management, lessen show up work, respect front line employee and reward them.
