I worked at STMicroelectronics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good balance Work- Life, Not particularly demanding, it was a good place to start the career and learn.

    Cons

Leadership has no Ideas. All the strategic choices made in the last 10 years were catastrophic ( let´s thinks about ST-Ericson). The actual board has lead the company from position number 3 to position number 13 into semiconductor ranking

    Advice to Management

Not so Easy.. best suggestion would be get retired: perhaps the company would have still some chance to survive....It is truly a pity

I have been working at STMicroelectronics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

None. At most one can have a decent life/work balance, unless she is required to work during the weekends to meet a deadline.

    Cons

If one has a minimum of interest in the quality of her work, this is one of the worst places to be.
Instead of working to raise the level of efficiency, people are encouraged to work in a mechanical way, doing things manually, and to work long hours (not paid).
Schedules are deceptively tight: chips (even simple ones) take many silicon versions to arrive to production, so one wonders why she has to work hard to produce something that most probably won't work.
Moreover, as people fear the Division Chief, no middle manager wants to be responsible of a delay, and so they tend not to cooperate at all.

    Advice to Management

Management is consciously bargaining the future of this company for their salary. I have no advice that they may really would like to follow.

    Pros

Work life balance last time but now getting from bad to worse.

    Cons

Low salary, exploiting employees. Those who are on the performing side are usually loaded with more tasks. Those who cannot perform are left to rot but when it is annual increment time, the one who can perform better only gets 1-2% more compared to the rest.

    Advice to Management

    Change management

    - Career opportunities and professional growth are very limited
    - Frustrated / burned-out people
    - Very much outdated technologies and environment hostile to innovation (banking and security segment)
    - Badly structured and very much political
    - Old management focused on retirement bonuses rather than on company's growth
    - Continuous conflicts between management and employees

    Work is very lite.
Some people come just for attendance.

    Cons

WORK IS VERY LITE!! Please join ST only if you want to enjoy your life. Youll not get any work to do, just sit idle and play games like many other employees do.

    Advice to Management

See what your employees are doing, Motivate them to do the work

I worked at STMicroelectronics full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I couldn't find any positive reason to stay. After changing 3 companies, ST is the worst one I remember and I'm happy to have left it. Never again!

    Cons

    Lots:

    - Human Resources are quite arrugant and they don't care about placing you in a position that exploits your capabilities and ambitions, with the risk that you will remain stuck in a job that makes you unhappy. It was quite embarassing to hear a HR introducing her company in my university, saying that if you're not a top graduate, you're not worth for ST.

    - Poor visibility of job openings. Most of the time ST hires through consultants that have been working for them as externals

    - Offices are awful: we were 100 people (university graduated!) working in the same room, with almost no windows and neon lights. Managers and marketing people mixed with designers (that require a silent place).

    - Old laptop and monitor

    - Noisy and crowded canteen. Low quality food.

    - No courses and other benefits for externals.

    - The lowest salary I have ever earned

    - Unpaid university master degree thesis. No support; just occasional reviews and dismissal after they have lost their interest, without thanking for the hard work

    Advice to Management

Give more value to your people. It's really terrible to hear a high-level manager introducing his company in a tech-fair in Italy saying that they prefer to hire chineses students in italian sites because they are more ready for the market. This demonstrates how much you value the formation of students of your own country. It's not a surprise that the ethics of this company are so low.

I worked at STMicroelectronics as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It is a position that allows you to keep a good balance of private and working life becasue the working hours are kind of fix and rarely they ask you to overstay at work

    Cons

Most of the time is spent in very repetitive tasks, there is any culture of innovation and a very up down approach. I believe that it makes every employees very demotivated

    Advice to Management

Enanche a more innovative and entreuprenerial culture. Cut all useless and beaurocraticl process that fill the working days of all employees e doesn't create any value for the company
