    Pros

Very good technical experience gained and serious life lessons learned

    Cons

These guys play favorites. Most companies give people bereavement time; at STS it's up the the manager's discretion. Well When my grandfather died not only did I not get bereavement time, they wouldn't let me work from home although the client would not have had an issue. I'd been there 5 years and done very good work and I had to sit in my cubicle mourning the passing of my grandfather because my manager decided I couldn't be afforded dignity.

The next year when my grandmother died, the company I had been at gave me bereavement time and sent a beautiful arrangement to the service.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees decently and make bereavement pay uniform for all employees. I did a lot with STS and traveled the world for them and still when I think of STS the first thing that comes to mind is how little dignity management afforded me at a time of great personal loss.

I have been working at STS International (CA) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

STS has been a great company to work for in my opinion they take care of their employees. I have had an excellent experience as far as management is concerned. My manager is one of the best I have had in my professional career. My manager has always been very supportive as well as made sure that I have all of the resources I need to perform my job. I personally have seen other STS employees’ advance to lead positions as well as get hired by Cisco.

    Cons

One thing that STS can improve on is adding more paid holidays, they currently only have 7 and in my opinion they should have a minimum of 10.

I have been working at STS International (CA) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Everyone at STS is friendly and easy to work with. The manager I have is great and always available for me when I need him. Human Resources is very helpful when you have questions and responds quickly. I am on the Cisco acct and the relationship between STS and Cisco is terrific. I highly recommend anyone interested in STS International to apply and join this awesome organization.

    Cons

I see that some others have complained about raises at STS. Alot of companies are not giving raises due to the economy, however, I DID get a raise 3 months ago, so STS DOES give raises. My base pay is where it shoud be for my position, so I am pleased with my compensation.

    Advice to Management

No advice to management. My manager and everyone else I have dealt with does there job effeciently and are very responsive.

I have been working at STS International (CA) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I get paid on time and like other people have said before they are at Cisco so you do have a shot at getting a Cisco job.

    Cons

    1. Terrible compensation. They will pay you well under what you should be making.

    2. Good luck getting a job performance review. Managers will dodge you for months to avoid even TALKING about giving you a review. And if you want a raise you are at the wrong company.

    3. Management can be cancerous. There is a manager that bad mouths everyone in the company. Openly.

    Advice to Management

    Compensate your employees.

I have been working at STS International (CA) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

other then Cisco presence ... nothing

    Cons

    1. No performance reviews - when I first join the company, hiring manager said that there are annual performance reviews. Now 15 months with this company, I have yet to get a performance review or any raises.

    2. Empty promises - In addition to #1, they also said that health coverage is fully covered. 8 months into the job, they changed their terms and now we have to pay for our own health insurance.

    3. Clueless on people management.

    Advice to Management

Provide proper people management training to leads. If management doesn't want to provide a performance review to employees, at least give the employees a chance to review their management and leads.

I have been working at STS International (CA) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They have some presence in Cisco for those interested in working there

    Cons

Upper management doesn't seem to value the staff placed at client offices. Line managers need Mgmt 101 training - only use 'carrots' to motivate employees (possible raise that never happens), no training provided, time off / holidays are minimal or non-existent. Health coverage is horrible. It's better to get your own personal coverage.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example. Earn respect don't just expect it. Treat others as you would like to be treated (or better yet, as you would like them to be for your clients).

    Pros

    Exposure inside Cisco
Working with just about all the newest equipment
Exposure to Voice, routing, switching, ACNS, and WAAS devices
    Travel to places is neat
Flex time can be cashed in or used for PTO
    Work from home is available

    Cons

    Base pay is really low
People you work with can vary in desire to want to move forward with their career
You're disassociated with management and vice-a-versa
The work is more "cut-n-paste" than actual thinking
    Benefits are horrible
You are given a laptop only, you'll have to supply your own monitors, mouse and keyboard if you want them.

    Advice to Management

    Pay a higher base salary
    Better benefits
Don't make employees have to pay for all their expenses on trips and get reimbursed
Pay for technology to make the job easier, don't make people buy their own monitors and tools.
