I have been working at STV (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Marketing Department has succeeded in recruiting some good rank-and-file marketing staff, as well as some decent mid-level managers.

    Cons

The upper-level Marketing managers run the department using fear and humiliation as their primary employee motivators because they lack real management skills. Every day they nitpick at the smallest matters to divert attention away from the fact that they offer no inspiration, strategy, or vision to do the job of marketing: Promoting the company's people and its strengths. The result is a mediocre, uninspired marketing product AND the lowest morale imaginable among a staff who are afraid to innovate or offer anything but the most minimal, insignificant changes. Additionally, the never-ending unrealistic deadlines on top of the crushing workload and low morale make this a truly depressing place to work.

    Advice to Management

You say you are reading all of the exit interviews. If this is true, you know by now that the Marketing Department needs new management at the top. Take action or the employee turnover rate will continue to climb.

    Pros

STV is a great place to work if you are dedicated to your career and looking for a real opportunity to grow in marketing and/or business development. The senior managers are knowledgeable, extremely flexible and motivating. I am challenged every day and encouraged at the same time. STV strives for quality and perfection in all areas.

    Cons

I have no cons of STV.

    Pros

Managers who value their team, diverse and high profile projects to work on, ESOP and 401K and benefits. For recent college graduates, this is a great place.

    Cons

When corporate STV swooped in from Douglassville and New York they ruined the office culture. Managers were more concerned with their budgets than the work or staff as that was the priority set from the very top. Projects were promised to clients with unreasonable deadlines and forced staff to deliver projects that were incomplete and unreviewed. Instead of allowing department heads with a proven track record of success manage their departments, corporate tied their hands.

    Advice to Management

By trying to create a corporate culture you have destroyed the best part of your company. STV Baltimore was once a great place to work and had managers that created a true team environment.

    Pros

STV has an excellent educational reimbursement program so be sure to take advantage of it. Other than that, the benefits package is pretty mediocre.

    Cons

For a company of its size, the internet could be faster. And we're not talking DSL speeds here, more like them 52k modem days.

    Pros

A great place for young landscape architects to start a career.

    Cons

Overheard from an executive vice president: "We like to hire landscape architects right out of college because they can do everything a civil engineer does, only much much cheaper."

    Advice to Management

Shortly before management decimated the Baltimore office with extensive layoffs they held a series of "town hall" meetings where a cavalcade of executive level managers stood up one by one to boast about how well they had avoided layoffs and work slowdowns during the "great recession." They spoke about the country's economic woes as if they were all but over (This was back in the first quarter of 2010). Employees were assured that the future was a little cloudy, but brightening all the time thanks to the brilliant management team at STV. Less than a month later these same self-congratulatory managers began paring the staff of at least one of the departments they'd just crowed about as a big success in their recession management strategies.

These executives had to know at that time what was on the horizon, and if they truly didn't then they should have. It's hard to trust and follow a management team who can't bring themselves to be up front with their employees.
