    Pros

Great company and great people. I was able to contribute and help make improvements more than is possible at other companies.

    Cons

Company went into bankruptcy, so it was a great place to work until it went into financial trouble.

    Advice to Management

Solar industry has its ups and downs so be ready for industry callenges.

I worked at SUNTECH AMERICA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A thriving, profitable, viable company with smart employees and great benefits, ground into the dust by the incompetency and greed of its Chinese overlords. A big waste, a damned shame.

    Cons

It doesn't exist any more, I guess that would constitute a pretty big Con.

    Advice to Management

Go back in time a couple of years and have a good, hard think about some of your decisions.

    Pros

None really. I do not recommend!

    Cons

Low pay, work till you drop environment, and over all volatile management. I was not surprised to hear they went under. The average turn over when I was there was 3 months!

  4. "Incompetent leadership from Chinese HQ bankrupted the company despite the success of talented US office professionals."

    Pros

The job provides a paycheck while you look for a job elsewhere.

    Cons

Company is in bankruptcy and has no future plans for US office,

    Advice to Management

    Give up.

I have been working at SUNTECH AMERICA full-time

    Pros

    Free nuts in the kitchen.
    Convenient location near mass transit.

    Cons

Misrepresentation of roles, responsibilities and upward mobility (good people often enticed to leave stable jobs relying on misrepresentations)
    Inexperienced, arrogant CEO in China.
Vision for company seems to change every other month.
Inexperienced, incompetent and/or unstable management in many departments (not all, but most).
Complete lack of accountability of management.
    Understaffed at every level.
    Politics pervasive at every level.
    Constant employee turnover.
    Lack of job security.
    Horrible employee morale here.
Quarterly (seriously) reviews for employees (except anyone in a management role, they have carte blanche).
Incredibly cheap (how about bringing in lunch for mandatory all-hands meetings once in a while?)

    Advice to Management

Clean house of most management and hire competent replacements.
Institute upward reviews (employees reviewing managers).
    Stop quarterly reviews.
Hire enough people to do the work.
    Value your employees.
Look behind you, your competitors have gained ground and it's only going to get worse.

    Pros

A paycheck is the only benefit afforded.

    Cons

almost 90% employee turnover annually at all levels including senior most positions. A China parent with no interest in developing the Americas organization. it is simply a channel stuffing operation with no senior level ownership. Evenings and weekends are expected due to time differences with China parent and no consideration due to perception of Americas employees being overpaid compared to China based employees.

    Advice to Management

Close the US subsidiary and sell through distributors. Consistency would be helpful. The concept of employee retention should not be dismissed simply because China interns are available as substitutes.

During its heyday it was a great company: growing, employees treated well, helping to save the world with solar.

I worked at SUNTECH AMERICA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Biggest Chinese solar manufacturer at the time. CEO is progressive and Internationally-minded by Chinese standards. Employees were generally bright and competent.

    Cons

Decisions made by Chinese management is largely opaque. Bonus structure stingy by US standards.

    Advice to Management

Provide more transparency to US management, perhaps through more exchange visits to/from China.

I worked at SUNTECH AMERICA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Was a great company that grew to the largest solar company in the world. But corporate mismanagement and over expansion pushed it into bankruptcy.

    Cons

    Bankrupt. Avoid this company.

    Star Star Star Star Star

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Great People that are passionate about what they do

    Cons

There is no job security at Suntech at all. Very poor management! one minute they are hiring the next minute they are laying the same people off as if nobody checked their budget before these people came on board.

    Advice to Management

It doesnt make sense to hire people and offer them great salary when you know you are going to lay them off after a month or so...Job security is always better than a good salary especially during this recession.
