I have been working at SUNY Buffalo part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It really depends on department. I'm a TA who has worked in a few departments - some better, some worse. In some, you make a liveable amount. In others, you frankly don't. I'm working for a supportive department now that tries its best, though the pay still sucks (they can't control that).

    Cons

As a T.A., you make little money. As an adjunct, even less. God help you if you want dental care or have children.
