I have been working at SUNY Plattsburgh part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly and very helpful staff and teachers. Always willing to go above and beyond for their students or employees to get a good education or get everything they can out of their job.

    Cons

The only downside I would say to work at this great institute for higher learning is missing opportunities for community events on campus or around town. That is unavoidable with any job held while at school.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice for them. I think they do a very good job at training and managing the fitness facility in particular.

I worked at SUNY Plattsburgh part-time

    Pros

The best thing about working on campus was the fact that my supervisor worked around my class schedule.

    Cons

The worst thing about working on campus is the fact that there is a 20 hour per week maximum student employees can work.

    Advice to Management

    None

I have been working at SUNY Plattsburgh full-time

    Pros

Great staff to work with. Our boss is quite a visionary and my direct supervisor is very easy to talk to. There when I need her, but still hands off and not a micro manager.

    Cons

Salary could be higher, but it's enough to live on for the area. Slow to replace staff when they leave, if at all. Not much room for promotion.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that you're always asking us to do more with less and less resources. Re-hire positions and if not, give a salary increase for those asked to take on more.

    Pros

Good money for a college student. Hours and times were flexible.

    Cons

limited to 20hr a week. Had to do long hours on the road. When you hit 20 hours you could not do any other work on campus until next week

    Pros

During my time as a Resident Assistant, I have learned various skills that have helped me to strengthen myself professionally and personally. This position is a great way for students to start networking and creating relationships.

    Cons

At times the heavy workload of a college student can become overbearing. It is pivotal to develop skills in time management and always reach out for help!

    Advice to Management

A stronger connection should be made between high level university officials and the resident assistants, many times things can be lost in translation which often can effect how you fulfill your job duties.
