I worked at SUNY Plattsburgh part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was able to make my own hours at the learning center. Everyone there was friendly.

    Cons

I regularly got students who were not prepared for the tutoring session. I did not like having to fill out a time sheet after every session.

    Advice to Management

I did not have any problems with management. This is a learning center, so there is not much you can expect as far as being an awesome job.

I worked at SUNY Plattsburgh part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great working hours.
You can set up your own schedule
Great people to work with (campus-wide)

    Cons

The pay could be a little better, but other than that it's a great working and learning environment to grow in. especially if it's your first job

I worked at SUNY Plattsburgh part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The community is great and the faculty, for the most part, are invested in the students. It is a great location if you enjoy winters. It's about an hour away from Monteal, Burlington, VT and is surrounded by great mountains.

    Cons

However, they do not give adjuncts the respect they deserve. Almost 40% of the classes across campus are taught by adjuncts, which means the whole institution could not function with out them. The pay is low and the work, semester to semester, is not consistent.

    Advice to Management

This is a public institution, so the exact salaries of employees can be seen online. This institution vastly overpays people in administrative and senior faculty positions who only do what is required to meet minimum outcomes.

I have been working at SUNY Plattsburgh full-time

    Pros

Great staff to work with. Our boss is quite a visionary and my direct supervisor is very easy to talk to. There when I need her, but still hands off and not a micro manager.

    Cons

Salary could be higher, but it's enough to live on for the area. Slow to replace staff when they leave, if at all. Not much room for promotion.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that you're always asking us to do more with less and less resources. Re-hire positions and if not, give a salary increase for those asked to take on more.

    Pros

Love the supervisors. Love interacting with the patrons.

    Cons

Could get a bit boring if you are working over the summer. Scanning equipment breaks down every once in a while.
