Management can be bit more organized.
Relation between departments can be maintained in a better manner.

I have been working at SUNY State College of Optometry full-time

    Pros

Caring Optometrists who value patients and provide quality eye care.

    Cons

Managed, or "Lead" by something resembling organized crime. The leadership run an organization based on favoritism not talent.

    Advice to Management

For the President, take a good look at your senior leadership. A good game is talked, but that's all it is...talk.

    Pros

employees make this place a community. Many of the workers have been on staff for a number of years and are truly dedicated

    Cons

more emphasis needs to be placed on changing outdated ways of doing things.
workers are expected to do more with less pay and resources
    promotions only favor male employees

    Advice to Management

make changes that actually matter for the entire community.

Stop taking long term staff for granted or the number of people willing to walk will increase

I have been working at SUNY State College of Optometry full-time

    Pros

There's a lot of freedom, and the benefits are good. The faculty and staff are very nice people, and easy to work with. The location is ideal; it's right on Bryant Park and very accessible.

    Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy to wade through if you want to get anything done here. I think that because of the confusing amount of organizations housed in one building, it's usually unclear who to go to for any specific thing that comes up. The email software is the worst.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at SUNY State College of Optometry full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It is filled with some good workers, and some your protected by your union.

    Cons

If you have plans to grow into management, and your not a particular race/not wiling to flirt with everyone like your higher ups do you won't be able to grow into this facility. You can work to the point where you don't see your family, and you will only hear "who told you to do that" or "thats what your suppose to do", while under qualified people are rewarder/promoted solely because of favoritism and race.

    Advice to Management

More so for the president - Take a better look at the people you have in power who feel that they are invincible. They will run your college into the ground more than it is now.

I worked at SUNY State College of Optometry full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    I can't think of any.

    Cons

I'm not sure which is worse. The doctors lack of knowledge or the students ignorance. The employee's in general are mostly rude, have little professional courtesy and very low class.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so cheap! Hire competent doctors and opticians and incorporate a higher standard when considering a new employee.
