I worked at SUPERVALU full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Being a union member. Management was good. Feel like pay was good for the job being performed - order selector.

    Cons

After over 12 years with the company was put in lay off status. Had to call in every day to see if you worked. Night shift needs better pay!

I have been working at SUPERVALU full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people, best part about the job is my co-workers, flexibility, salary

    Cons

Projects are focused on money and dates only. Poor decision-making at director level breeds an environment of fear. Some areas are cutthroat, no one has your back. Go with lowest bids despite bad past experiences and wonder why projects don't go well.

    Advice to Management

You've got good employees - listen to them instead of punishing for disagreeing with vendors. Your people know your customers better than the managers/directors do. Listen when they raise concerns because those concerns will happen and no one should be surprised.

    Pros

People who worked in corporate office in Boise, Idaho were great to work with and for.

    Cons

Change in Minneapolis Senior management in 2013 and 2014 had negative impact on culture of company. This is reflected in stock price.

    Advice to Management

Know you audience. Example - Don't brag about sending your children to the most expensive universities in US at the same employee meeting where employees are being told 401k matching is going away.

    Pros

They have a liberal work-from-home policy. Blue jeans are allowed with the casual workplace policy. Pay and benefits are typically above average.

    Cons

Everything is political! An extreme amount of "empire-building" leads to many turf wars and little cross-team collaboration. Training expenditures are seldom approved and it is very difficult to advance your career. The company's culture and values typically do not match mine.

    Advice to Management

Tear down the silos and encourage open communication plus collaboration! Create a plan and stick with it - every two years leadership shreds the old goals and everyone must start over, which causes confusion and low morale.

    Do the right thing.

I worked at SUPERVALU full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great team of people to work with, benefits were ok, new leadership promising

    Cons

Constant leadership changes 10 different leaders in 8 years, company shrinking they sold 3/4 of the company to Albertsons and they are closing offices. They plan to sell a big chunk of the company soon, it will be a ghost of it's former self.

    Advice to Management

    Stabilize IT leadership

I worked at SUPERVALU full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Probably a good job if you work in Eden Prairie HQ,

    Cons

Company shrinking. selling business units, and closing remote offices, if you work in a remote office, your days are numbered. Old fashioned management want's IT at desks down stairs, suspicious of remote workers, unless you are a contractor in India.

    Advice to Management

IT Leadership turnover is very high, 10 directors in 8 years, each leader is going to change the world, then they are replaced by a new change agent, who is quickly gone. They need stable plans that last more than a few months. Last group of leadership promising, if they last.

    Pros

Salaries were relatively decent for most employees.

    Cons

Need to keep jobs in the U.S. instead of sending so many over seas. Way too many managers and not nearly enough people actually doing the work.

    Advice to Management

Trim the management so you can keep the work in the country instead of putting Americans out of work.

    Pros

You get a paycheck and it seems to be a reasonable compensation for what your role is.

    Cons

Employees are treated like second class citizens

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. Don't prattle on about how you are supportive to employees and want them to demonstrate leadership, then retaliate against them, when doing so points out deficiencies in managements skills, knowledge and abilities.
