I have been working at SVA Certified Public Accountants, S.C. full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you're willing to speak up, you have a lot of opportunities to be involved in a lot of decision making. You have a lot of access to partners and decision makers and have the ability to influence and drive change. Higher-ups are willing to listen, give feedback, and are open to discussion, but you often have to ask for it - it won't necessarily be handed out. There are a number of perks for the CPA firm during busy season, including treats, lunches catered on Saturdays, and some days off during busy times to recharge. The amount of time off is generous, but there are some restrictions on when you can use it.

    Cons

Communication doesn't always come timely. Health insurance is expensive.

    Advice to Management

Be more open about communication. Trickle down communication doesn't create confidence in your decisions.

I have been working at SVA Certified Public Accountants, S.C. full-time

    Pros

Quality professional firm without the stress of a big 4 type firm.

    Cons

Inefficiencies at times with how the work product is prepared and routed.

I worked at SVA Certified Public Accountants, S.C. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are good people who work here. The company pays well and offers decent benefits, as well as free food and other perks.

    Cons

This is, by and large, a company that does not diversify in hiring. There are no blacks or Latinos working in this office of over 250 people. During the tax season one can see the occasional non-white intern or seasonal PT worker (I only saw two), but that is the exception.

    Advice to Management

Human Resources needs major help with sensitivity training and diversifying their hiring, as well as training the management staff to handle diversity. There is a lot of wrong going on here. They would benefit from an independent agency investigating their hiring and employment retention practices. Multiple employees were either fired or harassed out of their positions for not putting up with ill treatment.

I worked at SVA Certified Public Accountants, S.C. full-time

    Pros

Nice people to work with, generous in their meal provisions

    Cons

Expectations are poorly outlined during the start of employment and hard working employees are asked to overcompensate for employees that don't want to work. Management is very cagey and condones unprofessional behavior.

    Advice to Management

All employees should be held to the same standards regardless of their skin color.

I worked at SVA Certified Public Accountants, S.C. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The chance to learn from experts in a variety of fields such as tax, business advisory, trust/estate planning, valuation/litigation, healthcare, manufacturing, consulting, assurance, wealth management, real estate, and many others.

    Cons

Objectives and standards are inconsistent and not clearly outlined. Challenges are typically faced using the "trial and error" approach. Technological advances to the accounting industry will be slow to adopt and develop here.

    Advice to Management

Invest time in communicating clear expectations to staff, while allowing them into the company's vision.

    Pros

Flexible hours, casual dress code (dress for your day), friendly employees, lots of room for advancement if you are ambitious

    Cons

Health insurance cost is rather high. Long hours in tax season but no different than most public accounting firms. Training program could be better.

    Pros

Nice people there and they do have some extra benefits like food on the weekends, end of tax time parties.

    Cons

They don't pay well and as far as the IT dept, they are less interested in keeping and promoting and more interested in getting the most work out of you for the least amount of money.

    Pros

Work-life balance is wonderful. There was no Friday work from Memorial to Labor Day.

    Cons

There was little variety in the work. In addition, the benefits and compensation were just average.

    Advice to Management

You are doing a great job. This is a great place to work. I hated to leave, but wanted to do something different.
