I have been working at SYSCO Food Services of Detroit full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, great management. There is always room to advance and everyone gets treated equally. Pay can be increased a bit. Great systems in place to help you learn. Great coworkers.

    Cons

Only thing i would say was a con about this job was having to leave due to financial reasons. Besides that, it has been a great experience working here.

    Advice to Management

Continue to do what you are doing. QA and Inventory have a solid and smart team. Manager and supervisor are great guys.

    Pros

There are none!!! Good luck working here... your going to need it!!

    Cons

Tom Barnes is a snake in the grass, Do Not trust him!!! They will kick you to the curb,(o man wait, they can not get drivers). They will work you till you break. And once your broke-down and can not do your job anymore, they will crap on you and make you beg for money. Trust me I have been there with Sysco. Piece of advice--- Do not trust the Teamsters they are broke and will sell you out with not even blinking!! Just think about limping around the rest of your life just for that dollar.

    Advice to Management

    Get a life!!!

I worked at SYSCO Food Services of Detroit full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are no pros to comment on. Treatment at this corporation(especially the Detroit facility)is at it's very best is abysmal!

    Cons

Management that act like infants when dealing with employees. Workers who are injured on the job are sent to third rate medical care, and when they seek second opinions, they are treated like criminals.

    Advice to Management

Advice to management is to remember, that although you are a publically held corporation, you are still a "customer driven" one, and your employees are an integral part of that success. And when you treat your employees with such disdain, it ultimately affects your bottom line.

    Pros

A lot of responsibility and excellent continuos training. open door policy by all senior staff

    Cons

micro managed lack of respect for your time. Doing reports that are worthless and take away from time that could be spent selling or getting other customer related things done

    Advice to Management

Please make sure you are aware of the demands you put on your employees for things that do not generate anything other than data. There are only so many hours in a week and if these things are done to see if we are working then the system is broken. It also seems that some mid level staff members make employees do things or have meetings just to appear that there job is neccesary. Look for frontline employee input instead of having mangers tell us to ask for the business

    Pros

Salary and Benefits, vacation time and at this one of the few places that is proftable. Also has Union representation a definate plus.

    Cons

Very poor communication between labor and management.Mid-level managers are more interested in advancement and playing corporate games than actually performing their duties. There is a pass-the -buck mentality that only makes simple problems far worse than they truly are!.Younger floor managers are too immature to take any complaints seriously, and are so insecure in dealing wth them that they retaliate against the worker complaining, instead of dealing with the problem.

    Advice to Management

Sysco should make an effort to learn from the experience of the veteran associates in the warehouse, instead of ignoring them. The new operations VP should open his ears and mind to ideas, instead od stubbornly burdening his workers with childish ,petty edicts that only make the work far more difficult than it should be!!!

    Pros

Sysco offers the best training program in the industry. 6 weeks of in house product knowledge and sales tecnique, followed be weeks of mentoring with another seasoned associate. Compensation is as high as you make it.

    Cons

Customers not always interested in higher quality at a higher price. Sysco refused to carry low quality low priced items.

    Advice to Management

Compensate more based on customer service than sales margin above cost. All too often we had to raise customer prices on products just to make minimum commission.

    Pros

Job Security, Easy going atmosphere, Each day's work seems different than yesterdays workload.

    Cons

Sometimes, communication could be better from management. Pay raises are small (less than 2
     percent for most people).

    Advice to Management

I really do like working here, but the raises need to at least pace inflation.
