I worked at Sacred Heart University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Faculty truly care about the students.

    Cons

Administration is a boys’ club. There is tremendous amount of favoritism and unethical practice including but not limited to unethical internal promotions of unqualified people who are part of the club as well as sexism. Nothing but new buildings matter in this place. You feel disrespected and undervalued and replaceable every second of the day. Despite tremendous growth in terms of student numbers and number of buildings, the administration underpays faculty and overworks them. Draws of faculty are leaving as a result and instead of replacing the ones gone, administration requires the ones that are left behind to pick up what needs to be covered. This is a miserable place to work with no growth opportunity unless you are one of the boys.

    Advice to Management

Value your faculty. That is what retains students, not shiny buildings.

I have been working at Sacred Heart University full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Having summers of and co-workers on your level are great.

    Cons

The HR dept is not there to assist employees they just worry about the bottom line. Unprofessional dept managers. Supervisors who bully employees, it is like going to the school playground and worrying about the school yard bully and if today was your day to be beat up. A very toxic work place. Every year you get a raise your medical insurance goes up so you bring home less each year.

    Advice to Management

You should look at your departments and the ones that had 3-4 people leave in one semester. Look into HR and take complains seriously especially when multiple employees have made similar complaints. Drug testing for management should be required.
