    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Saddleback Valley Community Church full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Saddleback staff are well taken care of by a great HR department, staff meetings that actually care for the health and well being of employees, and a culture that values physical, mental, and spiritual health.

    Cons

Saddleback staff is a faith community that believes in the purpose of this church and sacrifices time, money, and the goal of material wealth in order to serve others. If you don't want to serve God and others, this is probably not the job for you.

    Advice to Management

Continue to value margin between ministry and family life.

I have been working at Saddleback Valley Community Church full-time for less than a year

      Pros

You can use the staff position to get lots of experience. If you're into set formulas then you will love it here It's a mega church Very fast learning environment If you go into it knowing it's a job and a corporation the. You will thrive. You can use he saddleback name to get other jobs.

      Cons

Salary paid workers are "expected" to work 50 hours per week and when there are 80 weeks. There is no taking off the days after to rest.. Boundaries are hard to keep. If employees were paid fair and well... if people were actually paid the Orange County wage.. then you wouldn't have the massive turnover you have at saddleback. Numbers matter a ton... doesn't matter what the reason is.

      Advice to Management

If you say and value principles, then follow through and make sure your lead pastors and senior leadership to be examples. Things such as work life family balance is not valued until you fight for it yourself. Working at saddleback isn't any different than any other big cooperation except you get paid very unfairly for the amount of work you do and say it's for the "greater kingdom"... while the senior leadership gets...

I worked at Saddleback Valley Community Church full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

fantastic pastor, great volunteers, some great programs like Celebrate Recovery, Student Ministries, and counseling. If you want to work as a servant and see what God can do with you that leads you to your next calling, this could be the place for you. Pastor Rick Warren is the real deal, make no mistake. He is off stage what he is on stage. I've never heard him say anything derogatory in a private setting. He truly...

      Cons

Really high turnover in staff. They use you and abuse you. Most staff leave because there is no work life balance and you are burnt out being paid peanuts. There is no value in professionally skilled staffing. They promote young staff with no professional industry experience or degrees for the sake of "looking young". Imagine being in a technical job and you're boss has no idea what it takes yet thinks he's an expert....

      Advice to Management

Pastor Rick started this church with the idea that he wanted to know what people didn't like about the church. And he set out to make a great church that was very informal. Pastor Rick is still that pastor, but he has no direct contact with his staff to hear the problems. Middle and upper pastoral management is horrible in many areas with no accountability because they only are accountable to Pastor Rick in the few things...
