I have been working at Safety-Kleen full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent parent company with decent perks and benefits, they really seem to care about safety, but at the local branch, 27 employees quit in less than 2 1/2 years due to harassment

    Cons

Managers jerk you around, waste your time, try to micro manage, play favorites limit commissions and create a hostile work environment, this is concerning because I'm not sure if some agitated employee will one day, have enough and have devastating results, like 6 o'clock news stuff, involving weapons , a horrible work place

    Advice to Management

Grow the hell up. Consider feeding or championing an employee instead of pulling his wings off and burning him with that magnifying glass

I worked at Safety-Kleen (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable company to work for. Co-workers were willing to help you out if needed. Management let you run your route if you did your job as expected.

    Cons

Several early morning starts, long hours weekly and low salary considering.

    Advice to Management

Get corporate management to pay employees what their worth if their doing a good job, so they continue working instead of leaving, because of burnout without the correct pay.

    Pros

You can make it what you want it to be-- great or awful! Tons of opportunity for the taking. Its what you make of it.

    Cons

Upper management could be more understanding of the issues in the trenches if they knew what they were.

    Advice to Management

    Get in the trenches.

I worked at Safety-Kleen (More than a year)

    Pros

Rewarding work, excellent brand recognition. Opportunity finds you more than you find it.

    Cons

Horrific and very frustrating internal obstacles - Fleet in constant disrepair, limited service drivers to fulfill customer needs, slow approval process to move deals forward, products needed to close sale (parts washers, waste drums) constantly out of stock or on back order. Even the laptop provided was constantly malfunctioning and the desktop support team would be backlogged and keeping you on hold for an hour or more at a time.

    Advice to Management

This is a great company that provides a valuable service. Reign in some of the internal headaches listed above and improve the compensation (recently took a bonus away from the sales team with no bump in salary) and this will be one of the best companies to be a part of.

    Pros

Great co-workers who worked well together.

    Cons

Company was acquired by Clean Harbors in Dec. 2012. Cultures of the two companies were very different.

    Advice to Management

Seek information from the ones in the trenches.

    Pros

Safety-Kleen was a good place to work with lots of opportunity, but unfortunately the Clean Harbors acquisition has ruined the company.

    Cons

Safety-Kleen was a good place to work with lots of opportunity, but unfortunately the Clean Harbors acquisition has ruined the company. Layoffs continue for both sides of the company. Unfortunately, nothing will change until the Clean Harbors CEO has been replaced with someone more positive.

    Advice to Management

Stop tearing down the profitable company you acquired.

    I worked at Safety-Kleen full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Collection group is friendly and helpful

    Cons

Since purchased by Clean Harbor morale is down and all of the managers and supervisors in the collection department has either resigned or been layed off. Clean Harbor's system is antiquated and they insist on quantity instead of quality. DSO has increased to 55 days from 45 days.

    Advice to Management

Let the collection department due their jobs the way they need to and not as a call center

I worked at Safety-Kleen (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people, compensation decent, and lots of flexibility on how you manage the facility

    Cons

Constant corporate initiatives jammed down your throat, expected to train employees on everything, and sign off on it. Very unrealistic considering the extremely high pace environment, time does not drag in fact it moves to fast. Branch constantly under staffed putting Manager in precarious positions to achieve budgets and maintain the ethical standards that they portray to have.

    Advice to Management

Less VP'S really how about people that can actually visit a branch and help i.e. run a route, order paperwork, use a handheld, is licensed, etc. you get the point.

    I worked at Safety-Kleen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Middle management was mostly great. Laid back work environment most of the time.

    Cons

Clean Harbors managing from a distance is terrible. The systems have taken a step back in time and nothing "talks" to each other any more. When you have a micro-manager for a CEO (i.e. has to approve every hiring decision from the top down to customer service reps) your business can only get as big as that one person can conceive...

    Advice to Management

Listen to and trust the people on the ground.

    I worked at Safety-Kleen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The customers. Also the ability to manage your own route and get away from the less than mediocre management.

    Cons

Management always ready to sell you out. Hard work always overlooked and unappreciated. Come in with big numbers and they ask why you didn't do more. Never a thank you. Management has a motto "I don't care how you get it (revenue), just get it"... meaning, screw your customer, just being in big money.

    Advice to Management

Go to bat for your employees. Don't just roll over, fight for the ones that keep your company rolling. A simple "thank you" goes a long way... say it more often!
