I worked at Safeway Canada full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good wages and benefits. Lots of opportunity for women and ethnicities.

    Cons

No Integrity from the Top down. More like "The Firm" as far trust and truth, are concerned. No work/like balance. The Safeway Family is like a cult. No autonomy for management so no fairness at store level. What DM and HR decide, goes. If they don't like manager, it's their personal vendettas that take over.

    Advice to Management

Bring back some Integrity! Years ago that was the biggest quality Safeway brought to the workplace. Not so anymore. Perhaps, with Sobey's takeover, there will be some actual grocery business instead of the drama that has taken over. "Truth" has been lost. Start up top, lies and deception have NO place in any workplace but Safeway was a much more honest, truly caring "family".

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Safeway Canada full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The compensation sounded fairly good - until you see what you have to go through for it!

    Cons

Unless you buy in to their brand of mind-control, you are treated like dirt! They set me up for failure from the outset and the more I tried to prove them wrong, the worse it got. Although I should have expected it - who hires a manager without even interviewing them? And then refuses to provide them with a Policy manual and corporate training? Obviously they just wanted a warm body to fill in until they could find another Safeway zombie.

    Advice to Management

Teach senior executive that it is illegal to physically assault staff - even if their bullying hasn't been effective!
