I have been working at Safeway part-time

    Pros

Easy beginning part-time job for High school graduate, the tasks are easy to perform with some company benefits and discount.

    Cons

The deli and store manager don't really communicate therefore cause conflict schedules, the pay is just above minimum. The schedule isn't consistent; it would suddenly change on a dime. And finally, normal employees would never be full time it is at most 35-39 hours a week so everyone other than the manager and chef is part time.

I worked at Safeway part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You will get a lot overtime. Part Time jobs are closer to full time.

    Cons

Poor Benefits. Overworks employees. Disorganized scheduling. Often Work overtime, with little compensation for your efforts. Food safety protocol not followed.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people, employees are not able to preform quality work. When it's closing time don't continue to serve customers.

I have been working at Safeway full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

We have a union, and amazing representatives! Good health benifits after six months of employment, and give back to our community!

    Cons

When you step into managment they dont care about offering more training to you. You lose your union benefits. I was lied to about the pay raise I was taking and have requested multiple times that it be fixed with no luck. Upper managment treats starbucks employees as a seperate buisness. I announced my pregnancy and requested that I stop "throwing loads" and was told that its my job to do it. I also left for approximatley sixteen days and when I came back, multiple baristas infomed me that upper managemt was taking statments on how me leaving effected the crew badly and how unproffesianal it was. Since then I've been put on a Personal Impoovment Plan and wasn't informed until two weeks after. On those plans you have 30 days to correct your actions or face termination. I'm surely convinced that after I told upper managment about my pregnancy that they are trying to fire me..

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees, offer them guidance and help during their employment with you. And treat them how you wish to be treated.

I worked at Safeway full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They will hire you even if you don't have experience, so it's a good job for kids looking to get experience
    They appreciate hard workers
If they had enough workers it would probably be fine
you get a discount at the grocery stores

    Cons

This particular Safeway in West Linn is not unionized
They are understaffed, so they will probably call you in or have you work over time
I worked with a woman who said she didn't get a pay raise until her 6th year
A lot of people don't stay long

    Advice to Management

Hire more than one person at once and respect your long term employees

I worked at Safeway full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Middle management will see 40 hours. Wages are ok. A lot of creativity is allowed in the floral department.

    Cons

District managers can transfer you whenever to wherever. No notice. No help is usually allowed except for holidays, so you must be fast and on your own.

    Advice to Management

Very little work/life balance if you are in middle management. No performance review or pay bumps. Upper management owns you. This is either good or bad depending on if they like you. I see a lot of burn out across all departments (not just floral where I was).
