    Pros

Easy work, straight forward labor and expectation; common sense stuff.
    Good health care benefits.

    Cons

Shopping cart load can fluctuate randomly, your co-worker can sometimes sting you with lots of carts to retrieve. You'll have a lots of "go backs" to do at Safeways.

    Advice to Management

Be positive and optimistic regardless of your opinions of entry level courtesy clerks. If you want the best effort from your courtesy clerks approach with an optimistic mindset, so this will prevent them from quitting.

"Great job if you can play the games"

Former Employee - Truck Driver in Tracy, CA

I worked at Safeway full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, great equipment, best benefits you can find, holidays floater days and sick days accumulate quick and you don't have to wait to get on the board to receive all of that. Pay is piecework figured by hourly, you can work as fast or slow as you want. 65,000. to 70,000. First yr. You don't work your days off and you cap out at 60 hours a week.

    Cons

Weekdays off no weekends for at least 10 years, you spend as much time picking up pallets in your trailer as driving, a lot of bay area stores and hard to get into. Pay is piecework figured by hourly. 5-25 pieces added to each load, two or three loads per day, X 400 drivers makes for a lot of mistakes which are fixed and added to your next check if you take the time to find them. A lot of games between dispatch and drivers and a lot of nitpicking and write ups. 3 minutes late on arrival time or sign out expect a write-up. Take your lunch late or skip your second lunch expect a write-up. Takes two to three years to get on the board. Turnover is around 50 drivers a year. Great benefits that go up 35 - 50 a year and are at $631 a month right now.

    Advice to Management

Take a closer look at individuals and not just overall and numbers. That would get rid of some of the game playing and save some of your good drivers. When there's an issue with a driver look at the drivers history as well as the issue to save some good drivers and cut down on driver turnover.
