I have been working at Safeway part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    regulars are usually very friendly
unionized so being fired for small things is not easy
Medical Benefits after working 1000 hours
    Raises after every 1000 hours

    Cons

No security, your only option for a bad customer is politely asking them to leave then calling the police who will show up after they are long gone.
If you attempt to stop a shoplifter or break any other "Major" policy you will be put on administrative leave then fired regardless of position.
Shoplifters are able to walk in take something and walk out and you can do nothing to stop them or you lose your job.
Nothing ever seems to get replaced or fixed until it is beyond repair.

    Advice to Management

Tell corporate that the stores are bleeding money from all the shoplifts that happen daily

I have been working at Safeway full-time

    Pros

Starting salary is highest compared to other retail pharmacy in the area.

    Cons

There are less tech hours compared to other pharmacys. You will work some shifts with no techs.

    Advice to Management

Pharmacists are stressed and over worked. Most shifts with 1 or no techs.

I have been working at Safeway part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a steady paycheck. All employees are unionized except for management. They'll cash your check in store if you need it.

    Cons

It's not clear what is expected of you. My department supervisor is very vocal about hating her job. Pay is not competitive for my area. I almost never work more than 25 hours per week.

I worked at Safeway full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of good people. Tremendous skills. Fast paced mindfulness AIDS in daily.

    Cons

A few bad department managers. Over looked skillsets. Little positive feedback. Hangover from disgruntled Albertsons

    Advice to Management

Review turnover in specific positions. There were 8 people before me in two years at the particular position. Unrealistic task assignments for hours allowed. Stupid, all the long term employees could see and would agree with this situation.

    I worked at Safeway part-time

    Pros

Flexible hours and multiple cross training opportunities

    Cons

Corporate has unreasonable expectations for the amount of hours we have that are consistently getting cut around the store and i have never heard any of them give a compliment.
    Very few full time opportunities

    Advice to Management

More people would stay if it felt like the company cared at all and if there were more full time opportunities

I have been working at Safeway full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great pay and benefits package considering no education or experience is necessary.

    Cons

Job title and days off are based on seniority. This is a plus if you've been there for 20 plus years. Unfortunately new hires will be expected to do brutal backbreaking work with no weekends off for twenty plus years of employment. There is no limit to their production standards, they tighten the minutes so tight it's impossible to make. The then measure how fast you can work and lock you in to that standard. Selectors are constantly threatened to move faster or be terminated. Injuries happen on average of every week. Safeway managers know it's unsafe working conditions but ignore injuries and only focus on showing their superiors they can save more and more money each year by threatening employees of termination, intimidation. 90 percent of employees are Hispanic. 30 percent can't speak English and many don't have legitimate green cards. Safeway distribution does not hire women. Only in one warehouse out of seven are there female workers. They do sanitation or work on the machine that packs orders. The number of bad supervisors outweigh the good supervisors. The favor and disfavor employees. Many hard works are treated worse then bad, lazy working employees. White workers are called wetos, or greengo's.

    Advice to Management

You can't squeeze a sponge that's already dry. Treat employees with respect, not like prisoners in a jail.
