I worked at Safeway full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's hard to think of any Pros. Coworkers are stressed and management just adds to the stress. Once you get to know your coworkers you find that many of these stressed out people are pretty nice people.

    Cons

No training on proprietary systems. For the first few weeks you'll sit with a few of the buyers that have little understanding of the system they're working on. They can't answer questions because they don't fully understand what they are doing. Be prepared for very little pay to do the job of a buyer and accountant. Due to the fact that you are figuring it out as you go, expect 12+ hour days plus some weekends. Encouragement is nonexistent but threats of job are plentiful.

    Advice to Management

Train, train, train! Telling your buyers to figure it out is not managing. A little encouragement goes a long way. Constant threats are only motivators to look for a new job. A 100% increase in pay would still not be worth the aggravation and stress of the job. Care about your employees and they will care for the company.
