Management can suck at times depending who they bring to the store, never enough checkers.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

for those who can afford what the union takes out of their checks, the benefits are ok.

    Cons

The hours are varied and on the low end. organization is terrible. employees are not treated with respect.

    Advice to Management

treat your employees better and not like they're expendable and maybe so many people wouldn't quit on you and actually stay with the company because it's getting old.

I worked at Safeway (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Interesting work, Nice friendly people, Competitive salary, Easy commute for me. They provides a gym to employees. And the café was nice with good healthy food options.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement in the design department. So for years you stayed at the same level, with only a 3% raise each year. No bonuses, even at Christmas. Safeway was bought by Albertsons. Albertson's outsources it's design dept. So We all were let go.

    Advice to Management

Wish there was more communication in the strategic planning, felt out of the loop.

I worked at Safeway (Less than a year)

    Pros

There were no pros associated with this job.

    Cons

Exceptionally bad management of the deli department. Actually, it seemed that the situation was so bad that most of the store managers avoided the deli altogether. Was not provided required safety equipment. Food safety practices were often violated. Store manager was awful.

    Advice to Management

    Actually, provide management and training.

I worked at Safeway full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great medical benefits and company brand discount! Fun environment and lots of room for growth within the company.

    Cons

Often times you end up working off the clock to finish tasks, NO overtime allowed. This was my personal experience anyway.

    Advice to Management

Cross train *everyone*! Everyone should have the knowledge of working in at least one other department. This will eliminate overtime/ people working off the clock, as well as help out tremendously in every department in the event of call-outs.
