    Pros

    Freedom As an Independent Contractor, you have the freedom to make your own schedule. As long as you are out there working and making your numbers, they are not on your back-in my experience. It is a strong optical company with a great reputation in the industry and excellent products.

    Cons

    You are an Independent Contractor. There are absolutely no benefits. You pay your own taxes/retirement. And the big one, is the car and gas expenses. There is a lot of driving in most territories.

    Advice to Management

    I have always liked the management team that I have been involved with.

    Pros

    Very little BS. Very autonomous workplace.

    Cons

    If company drops/loses lines, your income suffers; You are in direct competition with your workmates; other companies in industry provide better compensation plans

    Advice to Management

    The Italian corporate owner needs to assess what it gives the US partner--Sales managers are poorly paid and must work a territory to make any money. This means the rep in that territory loses out on the accounts the manager keeps for himself. If you are a rep with unpopular name brands, your compensation is below minimum wage after paying your own expenses.

    Pros

    Many long term employees, sense of community.
    Interesting product, with good brand portfolio.
    Good reputation for product, growing (but quickly changing) industry

    Cons

    Change is hard. Long term employees can be resistant, newer employees are not ready for the product-specific challenges of the business. Unique business model has a significant learning curve for outsiders.

    Advice to Management

    Be honest and aware that this will continue to be a challenging process. Chart a path and stick with it. Good luck.

    medical benefits, stable industry, good cafeteria

    hiring freeze, moving location (bad commute), changing old policies and procedures very difficult, old-fashioned ways of thinking and doing things

    Pros

    Company has great reputation in the industry, but could definitely use a little modernization.

    Cons

    Extremely insufficient training. Absolutely no sign of career development. Many employees have made a longterm career with this company, but no one seems to progress within the company.

    Advice to Management

    Check out the competition within the industry. Develop a career planning program making sure that managers know how to help their employees reach goals and succeed within the company.

    Independent, Great If you are driven to succeed

    Cons

    Expenses can really drain your bottom line if you are not shipping a lot.

    Advice to Management

    Have a better training program.

    Pros

    Safilo is well respected in the eyewear industry, having a proven record of manufacturing and distributing high-quality ophthalmic frames and sunwear. The brands in their portfolio are highly recognized, albeit with more emphasis on North American and proprietary collections. The North American sales and distribution operation will soon have executive representation on equal footing with European divisions.

    Cons

    2016 is a year of transition for the company with the loss of Gucci, a flagship brand. The executive team in Italy is addressing improvements in manufacturing and distribution while restructuring the management and operations teams in the U.S. The result of all this change is disorder, uncertainty about the brand portfolio, poor delivery of product (backorders and mistakes in orders) and the loss of experienced people who have significantly contributed to the Safilo brand.

    Advice to Management

    1.Expand WORLD recognized brand portfolio. 2.Stabilize management team and expand Sales Director team. 3.Understand the needs of the sales team and respond strategically to market challenges. 4. Improve communication with North American organization about the Safilo strategies. 5. Develop plans to meet corporate goals by involving U.S. sales and operations teams. Get buy-in to achieve results from your people.

    Pros

    Company has great producs, there are flexible work hours, you schedule own appointments. Potential to make 100K+s because 100% commission.

    Cons

    Extensive backorders which means unavailable product.
    Only get paid when orders ship
    Certain brands are limited distribution so not available to all doors

    Advice to Management

    Respect your sales force. Reps are the reason for income and they are treated like step kids. There is no help from management. The accounts should be the focus of the team and they are not.

    Pros

    Constant, fast-paced work. Employer has trust in employees to make their own decisions. Business casual dress code and flexible hours for specific departments.

    Cons

    Benefit packages has been getting worse year by year. Employer is focused on lean management which is saving costs, but at the expense of losing valuable, long term employees.

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees; treat them with respect which will encourage their contribution. There is too much complacency in the workplace, most workers just do the bare minimum to accomplish their tasks.
