I have been working at Safilo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get a weekly paycheck (albeit salaries are way below industry/function standards). Benefits are ok.

    Cons

Too many to list - but overall, if you're in brand management this is the worst possible career move. Suffice it to say that there are no clearly defined roles and responsibilities across the board. This leads to a horrendous lack of accountability, deep rooted dysfunction, and deplorable employee morale. Makes it enormously and unnecessarily difficult to get anything done. Single most frustrating experience of my entire professional career.

    No training for new hires
No growth opportunities (company does not promote from within)
    No structure
    No work life balance
    Just - d o n o t a c c e p t a n o f f e r t o w o r k h e r e - unless you're desperate, run for your life

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your employees - our feedback is not merely complaints. If you listen, you'll hear the solutions to the key issues that are preventing the company from achieving its goals. You'll also realize why new hires quit within 4 weeks of starting the job, and why current employees resign so often.

I have been working at Safilo full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Has a great reputation in the industry. Great Directors (with experience), middle managers and support employees. Great product quality. Had the business in good shape up until 2 years ago.

    Cons

Change is constant. New CEO believes in running the U.S. from Italy and it clearly does not work. The former Executives, who are all gone and were very good at their job, had a high degree of integrity and experience. Highly successful and U.S. led, and still leads, the company in results. New CEO is very arrogant and has been there 2 years and all she has to show for it is extremely bad morale, incompetent and detached executives. They are warned that if they don't do what Italy says they will be removed like the former team. So nobody has much respect for them and they are not showing leadership. The previous VP of Optical Sales was highly regarded in the company and the industry. Was a phenomenal leader and always made you feel you were important and you felt you played a part in the success. Not sure why he left but had some medical difficulties which were probably impacted by the new regime. He was not a yes man so I am sure it was mutual. We were number one in market share and the salesforce were ranked at the top. That was because it was a team effort led by him and the team in Sales inside and outside. The former President was also someone highly respected and was a great leader. It was clear the new CEO did not like them which was more of a reflection on her than them. I would much rather have them on my team than competing against them. They were replaced by yes people and by people with no experience in the eyewear industry.
It is a real shame that what was a great company has fallen down so fast and so far.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the top incompetent executives who are the "yes" team and bring back the pros if it is not too late. Unfortunately until the lady at the top is still there and destroying the company there is not much that will happen positively. Everyone is looking to leave and the support employees, managers and Directors who have been there for years are great people in the U.S. The quality of the product is great but we lost the top brand to the former CEO and I am not sure what is out there that can replace Gucci.

    Pros

Nothing anymore. Back in day there were many though.

    Cons

Ceo Luisa...and all her Italian cronies taking over the building..pushing people out and creating a scary and unstable work environment for everyone there. Do not believe anything nice that the H.R. dept posted themselves after May 21, 2016. They were just trying to do some damage control online obviously.

    Advice to Management

Start appreciating the people who know what they are doing and have worked here for years. This company was great at one time. Not anymore though.

I have been working at Safilo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are absolutely no pros to working for Safilo. What used to be a good organization prior to the new CEO has now had all the perks and benefits taken away.

    Cons

Long hours, no communication, employees aren't valued, employees are a number on a spreadsheet, terrible pay, merit increases are a joke.

    Advice to Management

Fire Luisa Delgado. Or if possible jump ship now. The company won't last much longer with her at the lead.

    Pros

Nothing at this point. The company lacks professionalism, integrity and values. You are not important. Nothing positive is left of the company.

    Cons

It was a great company until the Italians took over with their benchmarking(favoritism) attitude. All the Italians receive housing, car allowance, Italian benefits and US benefits, Star bonuses plus plus plus more. Americans receive a bogus performance review based on rating that a manager w preference has and will dictate on favoritism not actual performance. HR dept in NJ is unprofessional and lack compassion. They took everything away and expect you to work more with no incentives. Stay away from the company it's a joke.

    Advice to Management

Stop the favoritism and base reviews on actual
Performance. Bring back all the incentives that add the company great. HR needs improvement as the personnel lack professional or skills

I worked at Safilo (More than 5 years)

    Pros

absolutely no reason for an American to work for this company.

    Cons

Key people have been leaving over the past 2 years. Most recently : Sales, Product, Marketing. Very few of the original quality Management is left and most of them want to leave as well. They are replaced by Italian nationals who don't have basic communication skills and can't make their own decisions because they are "owned" by Luisa Delgado. They receive perks of car, housing and more while the Americans receive none of these perks. The HR department, once a true partner to the employees and management is now led and staffed by incompetent unprofessional people who are writing fake positive reviews to counterbalance the truthful reviews. The company is closing down departments resulting in many long term people losing their jobs and they are receiving next to nothing in severance pay while the Italians enjoy many perks. Just not fair.

    Advice to Management

it's too late to do anything. It's just a matter of time before this company falls apart. Just don't join them if you want a professional career where you are able to make decisions and are interested in a positive culture with like minded people

    Pros

Excellent benefits. Good health, dental, and vision as well as paid time off.

    Cons

There is no growth opportunity with this company. The Senior Management team is toxic, belittles the staff, and is only interested in doing things the way they have always been done.

    Advice to Management

Release the tight reins and give your staff the chance to show you what a cohesive team can accomplish.

I worked at Safilo full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

From my perspective, there are none. I was an employee for over 15 years and after the new CEO took office, I watched a company that I and my fellow employees loved working for, who was highly respected in the industry, had employees with experience and dedication, deteriorate into this sad image of what it once was. So many senior members of the staff left the company going to competitors and other opportunities, not because they wanted to, but because they were literally forced out by a CEO who wanted to run the company they way she saw fit, not in a way that made any business sense or brought value to the organization.

    Cons

For anyone thinking about joining Safilo, I would look into the following and ensure you get answers to the following:
    1. Ask why all previous members of senior management have left, and do not accept an answer like "they couldn't accept change"
    2. Ask to see the details of the employee survey specifically the us results. HR will try to hide these
    3. Ask why employees have commented on this site that HR writes their own positive comments. (Damage Control)
    4. Talk to some existing employees outside of HR and get their opinion
    5. Find out the number of employees that have left in the last 24 months. Ask what the headcount was in 2013 vs today in the Parsippany location
    6. Ask why all initiatives by the CEO have done nothing to increase profitability
    7. Ask how many top licenses the company has lost
    8. Ask how many key positions today are filled by US employees vs employees from Italy.
    9. Ask why employees coming from Italy receive perks such as travel expenses for them and their families, a car, a generous living allowance, a residence, and salaries much higher than US employees. Don't let HR state this is untrue. It can be verified if you know where to look. This company is NOT about diversity and inclusion. It's about being Italian and being excluded!
    10. Ask why employees reviews are changed to follow a bell curve. Ask what raises average and what percentage of employees receive raises. Get specific goals and objectives in writing. Don't get fooled. Give details
    11. Ask why employees cannot get the frame of their choice, and are stuck just choosing "house brands"
    12. Ask why the organizations priorities constantly change
    13. Ask about development training for employees. Outside seminars, etc.
    14. Find out about career progression if any. They will tell you about opportunities but the only way you will get them is if there is a) no one from Italy to fill it, b) you have a low salary, or c) you are handed it in addition to your current responsibilities, oh and without extra pay!
    15. Ask why the stock price has decreased over the CEOs tenure.

Overall my advice is to do your due diligence and not get fooled by the incompetent HR group. If you want to be successful, have management that is interested in your development and progression, and of course make a higher salary year after year based upon a fair evaluation of your performance and contributions, go elsewhere. Join Safilo and you will either be somewhere, or you will be one of those employees that just stays and exists year after year with zero satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Management has seen these reviews both here on Glassdoor and through their so called employee engagement survey. Problem is that they just do not care what anyone has to say. Nothing will change to benefit the employees who make this company go. Do yourself a favor and research and ask the right questions, talk to someone in the company or who has left. Don't get fooled.
