I worked at Safway Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    The hours were great.
Loved that you could wear jeans everyday. Clean offices .
    Traing was good.
If I needed a day off I had no problems with that.

    Cons

The manager I reported too I think was bi-polar. Very inconsistent and not professional at all. Would argue with upper management in front of other employees either verbally or via email. Definitely not a team environment. Your co-workers will either stab you in the back or tattle on you to make themselves look better.

    Advice to Management

Grow some balls! Quit trying to be everyone's friend and lay down the law.

    Pros

The Safway people are a great group that all work together to get the job done. They have some really good people working for them.

    Cons

Sometimes employees are not given the opportunity to express the great skills they have that would contribute the the over all benefit of the company. This is key to the growth of this company

    Advice to Management

Spend more time getting to know your staff

I worked at Safway Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The training that the company offers is excellent. Pay opportunities are decent and they provide employees with top notch equipment to do your job.

    Cons

Company focuses so much time and energy on big projects that they ignore the smaller ones. Problem being is the big projects only last so long and when they are looking to get more business the custom that got blown off now doesn't want to do business with then.

    Advice to Management

Employees in the branch know their customer base better than management that pops in once a month.

    Pros

Pay is fair, employer are great people, work is steady, per-diem is reasonable, and you have real chance of moving up in the company

    Cons

You may come across a few employee's, that's rude are that's not management material, some that's not a team player, some that's not safe and responsible in those type of work environments

I have been working at Safway Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You're able to learn new things, get training, meet lot of new people and advance if you're interested. You also get great benefits and get to work with people who take pride in their work.

    Cons

Office gossip and things you'll deal with at any other job, really. Also, my particular location needed a larger parking lot.

    Advice to Management

I think things are going fine. It's a great company to work for.

I worked at Safway Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Family feel, in spite of it being a corporation. Great place to meet and make new friends, also a good work life balance.

    Cons

There tends to be a large degree of micromanagement in play. They want you to work independently, but then change the rules mid game.

    Advice to Management

When you have good hard working people, try hard not to use them like toilet paper, or scapegoats.

    Pros

    Great life/work balance
    Family orientated environment
    Monday-Friday 7-330pm
    Excellent safety culture
Great benefits compared to the majority of other companies

    Cons

Outside work regardless of weather conditions
    Very physical work
Skeleton crews regardless of the volume of incoming/outgoing work
End of summer vacations are blacked out due to 8-week prep for inventory
Very little upper management engagement on critical issues
Reviews and raises are slow to none if any

    Advice to Management

Listen to the concerns of your tenured employees as good replacement help is expensive. It is less costly to keep a good employee than to keep searching for a new candidate that will have some big boots to fill.

    Pros

Laid back and very close knit office group. Management is super nice and understanding.

    Cons

The location of the office is not very great, right off Harry Hines where some riff raff is present.

    Advice to Management

Continue being awesome and anyone that works there will succeed. The employees are only as good as you train them !
