I have been working at Sage Products for more than a year

    Pros

Sage provides excellent resources that make most calls into healthcare warm with the ability to offer education or awareness on products or devices that the facility may already be using. Sage recognizes success and offers a great environment to work in with many additional perks that reward employees for effort.

    Cons

There are occasions when it is difficult to keep pace with an ever changing healthcare environment and competition seems to come into play for products that have become a commodity.

    Advice to Management

Continue to break into new markets with the development of items or devices that stress prevention so that caregivers and patients can remain healthy. Consistent drive for success and maintaining the culture of our company will help lift employees that are having challenges while also rewarding those that are striving for continued growth.

I have been working at Sage Products full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Sage is a great company to work for. The products are outstanding, the very highest quality products but they are also costly, but are worth it. The culture is great, there is a gym to work out in, a doctors office as well as wonderful benefits.

    Cons

More opportunity for growth would be great, as well as better compensation at times. It is a really hard job, but worth it. Sometimes a chain will lose business and there is nothing the rep can do, so the rep can be losing money all year when it isn't their fault.

    Advice to Management

    Higher pay structures.

I have been working at Sage Products full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Even as a business that is growing at a rapid pace, Sage has always put emphasis that it's number 1 asset is it's associates. While they know that is key to their success, being able to stick to that mindset is not easy. From day one, they invest in each and every associate, from monetary benefits that most companies no longer offer, an in house clinic just you family, and a passion for continued education for... anyone that desires it. I started working at Sage at the beginning of the housing collapse in 2008. When I interviewed, I had the mindset of taking any job I could find just to pay bills and eventually find the right job for me when the market stabilized. What I realized very early in the interview process and in my first weeks was that I had stumbled into a company that cares for their associates and was ready to help build my career. The last 7 years have flown by, and I am incredibly blessed to work at Sage. I look forward to many more years working with Sage.

    Cons

The main drawback from Sage is that people have so much tenure, that promotions within some smaller departments are tougher to achieve, just because so many associates stay for decades. While they do their best to promote from within, it is usually only accomplished when a department is increased in headcount.

    Advice to Management

Another small drawback is that with the extreme growth of the company, the operations part of the company seems to stay the same size, putting more stress on the people that have to support the growing sales force. Smaller departments are then forced to find new ways to be efficient and ultimately commit more hours or fall behind on their projects. My advice to management would be to pay closer attention to the... needs of smaller support departments that feel like they are slowly falling behind and be more open to creating new positions to assist with the growing workload.

I have been working at Sage Products full-time

    Pros

I've spent some time reading other reviews for Sage on this site and about 95% of them are dead-on. Sage is the model of efficiency in healthcare. They dominate every product category in which they compete with an average market share of >80%. The recipe is simple - they hire only exceptionally brilliant people and quickly regurgitate bad hires or those who simply don't fit in. The best and the brightest are what's... left and, in a Darwinistic twist of fate, the atmosphere at Sage is second to none. In summation, Sage can be an awesome place to work. The caveat, however, is that you MUST to fit into the culture. The company is entrenched with deep family roots; the hoofprints of which can be seen from space. If the healthcare industry was a crowded bar, Sage would be a medium-sized group of ex-fraternity guys standing around a table in the back corner. They're dressed better than you are, they make more money than you do, their drinks are stronger than yours, and they quickly trample outsiders like an aboriginal horde of warring monkeys. It's frightening when you're on the outside, but once you're in - you're IN.

    Cons

The company was founded by career sales representatives and, as a result, they pay their reps handsomely. If you can get a sales position at Sage (inside or outside) you're set. You can expect to be selling the best products in the industry with an outstanding base salary and great commission. You'll also enjoy a slew of expensive perks (i.e. all-inclusive trips, company cars, etc.). If you're looking for a... position in manufacturing, you'll also be sitting pretty. Manufacturing employees make a great money (relative to the market average for those positions) and receive the same great benefits as everyone else. They are also treated with a high-level of respect from upper management (I'm only putting that in here because there are many companies that promote a culture of looking down upon low-level workers). However, if you accept a mid-level office job, you'll be playing the role of the proverbial cuckold. Your pay will be, at best, equal to market average. At worst, it will be much lower. You'll also have the benefit of "supporting the salesforce". Remember, the company was founded by sales reps and there is thus a pressing focus on making sure that sales needs are taken care of FIRST. I guess you can't argue much against the system. After all, it works! Sage dominates the market. But often times, "supporting" the salesforce requires an truly exceptional amount of work and overtime (for all of you salaried folks, you will sometimes be working till 10:00 or 11:00pm for no extra pay). You could easily argue that working long, hard hours is a small price to pay for being part of a successful company. However, the rally-around-the-flag mentality can be quickly lost! This is especially true when working with (or really "working for") sales reps who have long since adopted an unprecedented level of corporate entitlement. I don't want to pick on all reps. That wouldn't be fair. But there are many who are demeaning, short, and condescending towards the lowly office folk who provide them with almost everything they need to make a sale - office folk who often have a similar level of education to most if not all of the salesforce, put in an equal if not greater amount of work than the salesforce, but are subsequently rewarded with a fraction of a sales rep's salary. It's a big and unfortunate buzzkill. It should also be noted that, depending on which department you work in, there can be limited upward mobility. In many cases, the only way to be promoted or earn a larger paycheck is to move to a completely different department! This seems to directly contradict the fundamental principles of career incentives, as you are often working hard in a position that doesn't pay well and has no room for growth. It's all merely the byproduct of a broken system that largely overlooked because the company does so well each year. Everyone must be happy, right?! Just keep guzzlin' the Kool-Aid...

    Advice to Management

Management personnel are incredibly smart and are actually very nice people inside and outside of work. The company is incredibly active and charitable in the community as well. These things should continue. The employees really respect and appreciate the reputation of the company and its external endeavors. That being said, they need not forget about the those in the middle!

I have been working at Sage Products

    Pros

Management is very open to suggestions and collaboration. The overall work environment is extremely welcoming and pleasant. The benefits and 401k are above average.

    Cons

Individual teams tend to run extremely lean. For the volume of work and minimal turnaround time, there is a very real need to increase staffing. There does not appear to be much opportunity to advance to a new title or significantly increase salary.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on increasing either salaries or workforce or salaries to maintain dedicated employees

I have been working at Sage Products full-time

    Pros

Extremely friendly environment. Ownership cares about associates and future of business. Company focus is always to keep the end user in mind while doing the job. Compensation and benefits extremely fair. Associates always looking to keep work engaging and fun. Positive communication is encouraged.

    Cons

Top management does their best to communicate future decisions and direction of the organization but this doesn't always happen in a timely manner which leads to confusion among associates. I'm certain this is no different in any other organization.

    Advice to Management

Possibly look for ways to communicate business future to the organization at the same time (Home office vs Field) or in close conjunction to each other in order to promote a more united workforce.
