I have been working at Saint-Gobain Abrasives full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many different jobs and employees at the operator level are awesome to work with. The pay at entry level is competitive and they match up to 6% of your salary in your 401k.

    Cons

Lower level management is not very knowledgeable of the operations taking place. They also show no interest in anything other than numbers. Double standards in some cases. The shift differential is a bit low compared to some places in the surrounding area.

    Pros

Good compensation. Good stepping stone for young professionals.

    Cons

Slow to adapt. New products lacking (coated). Too many layers of management pulling in different directions at times. Communication between sectors of the company needs improvement to put it nicely (plants, customer service, product management, pricing). Lack of training

    Advice to Management

Take advice from your employees and work on change. Some upper management changes need to be made

I worked at Saint-Gobain Abrasives (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are very few positives about this company. Overall, the employees are nice and enjoyable to work with. They share in your misery.

    Cons

    - NO work life balance at all. They like to hire young, single people into this role so that they can work them to death. They dangle carrots in front of you to motivate you but there are no promotions or career advancement opportunities at the end of the road.
    - NO opportunities for growth. You will literally be stuck in the same job for the majority of your career unless you want to move to a location in the middle of no where for a slight promotion.
    - This company is very political. You need to be in the old boys network to get anything done.
    - Upper management is clueless and is only concerned about their bonuses.
    - Salary for the amount of hours you work a week is ridiculously low. You probably would make more flipping burgers at a fast food restaurant.
    - The company can't get out of its own way. It sells commodity products and tries to compete on price. There is no innovation at all. The company is always 2-3 steps behind 3M and its competitors.
-90% of the workforce is at or near retirement age.

    Advice to Management

Change the leadership in Coated Abrasives. It has been the same old, unsuccessful regime for years. You are losing young and talented employees at a staggering rate. You only manage to keep them for 2-3 years before they realize that they are working in a toxic environment and leave for much greener pastures.
