I have been working at Saint Leo University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with, very friendly, great benefits. Campus is beautiful, food is decent, and everyone is willing to help each other out.

    Cons

Budget changes often and pay cuts across the board. Campus is located almost in the middle of nowhere with little housing in the area.

I have been working at Saint Leo University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly management, trying hard to meet the needs of students. Open lines of communication, safe place to reach out when you have problems. Great place to work. Upper management works hard for the students. Students are wonderful. Great place to work.

    Cons

The reason this is not a 5 star review is because some assistant professors have no clue and they are charged with being your "mentor".

Professors should have certifications or be tested or have published before they come to work. Especially those who are delivering technical subject matter. Not all degrees are created equal. At least one professor I worked with went to an easier university that was not technical and was too far removed in his work experience from the nuts and bolts of material. Make sure they can do the work they teach.

I went walked in on one "googling" how to work problems before class. Said professor watered down academics to get good student reviews. Assistant professors will badmouth you to top managers and students if they see you as a threat, especially if they don't know how to do their job.

    Advice to Management

Talk to your adjuncts and students regularly, you may be very surprised as to what is going on. Make your harder subject professors test/certify before they start teaching.

I have been working at Saint Leo University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits other than salary. Beautiful campus.

    Cons

The core values are just words on a wall. Financial crisis because of lack of accountability, poor management and zero leadership.

    History of nepotism.

Academics are not capable of running a business. Threats of job loss if numbers don't improve creates stressful environment.

Everything bad you have ever heard about academia can be seen here.

    Advice to Management

Even if you paid more, threats or implied threats make the environment intolerable. See very little flexibility of thought in managers which is why they are not leaders and are poor managers.

I have been working at Saint Leo University part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Beautiful environment; genuine people to work with who are helpful and kind; great students who are bright, interested and respectful of staff and students.

    Cons

The pay is by far the worst in the state of FLORIDA and less than half of what was offered at another public university over ten years ago!

    Advice to Management

If possible, pay all Faculty the average for the state instead of the minimum you can get away with. Perhaps then, you will keep the best part time Faculty at your university because the SLU students deserve the best education money can buy at the tuition rates they are paying.

I have been working at Saint Leo University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work environment, the job is easy as far as what they expect from you. Make sure you enroll students. There is room for growth. You get to listen to music as you work. It's a calling center atmosphere. You get free education for you, your spouse and kids. Too bad I got this job after I completed my degree and have student loans. But it is a non profit so if you plan on staying for 10 years you can possibly qualify for public service student loan forgiveness.

    Cons

Depending on your AD you can have a great experience or a horrible micromanage experience. Luckily my AD is awesome and he is accommodating and works with you as long as you have the vacation/sick time to cover. Hours are long from 9a-6p. But weekends are off and a 4 hour overtime shift is optional so it's give and take. After a year of employment paid week off on Christmas, plus in general other paid holidays.

    Advice to Management

Not many complaints. I feel they really take great care of us!
