I have been working at Saint Louis Zoo part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great environment, fun, awesome co-workers, employee/volunteer behind the scenes tours occasionally, awesome summer bbq for employees, flexible scheduling, opportunities to help out in other departments, or transfer to another department. You get to go to the zoo everyday. The animals! You can learn A LOT if you ask the questions!!
Free parking, 50% off food, 10% retail discount.

    Cons

    Seasonal is generally March-October...
Because it’s a seasonal there can be high turnover for some positions, college/high school kids who may not truly CARE.
Then there’s the obvious: the weather, the traffic, working on holidays... but that’s to be expected in this type of job.

I worked at Saint Louis Zoo part-time

    Pros

The zoo is such a fun place to work. Everyone is friendly and shares a passion for animals and conservation.

    Cons

Management doesn't always have the best people skills. If you are part-time or seasonal, it sometimes feels like you aren't really valued.

    Pros

Fulfilling for animal welfare and care

    Cons

Takes advantage of people who are dedicated to providing unlimited means of resources and their education to better the lives of animals.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better. They are professionals and deserve to be treated that way.

I have been working at Saint Louis Zoo part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free Food, Interaction with people all over the world.

    Cons

A lot. I don't know where to start. Management is horrible. The raises are horrible. Literally my last raise was 11 cents. Wow. Its better than nothing but it could be better.

    Advice to Management

Support your team. Learn what we go through.

I worked at Saint Louis Zoo full-time

    Pros

I learned a lot, most coworkers were friendly. Benefits were nice.

    Cons

It's a competitive job market, so be prepared to work hard or get cut. I had no support when I was struggling, and while they SAY they encourage questions, in practice, I was met with condescension for not knowing things sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Have a little compassion, maybe actually hire more staff for the amount of work that needs to get done instead of working newbie seasonals to death.

    Pros

Environment, excellent coworkers, making connections with visitors, helping change the world

    Cons

Very few full-time positions and even then, generally not full time until you've been there 6-7 years (have to put in quite the time and energy first)
