    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Saint Lucie County School Board part-time

    Pros

Steady minimum wage work available for new teachers as subs

    Cons

age-biased, broken promises, budget-conscious to the extreme, and not reliable. Your experience counts for nothing.

    Advice to Management

If a sub provides excellent service, don't just take advantage of the situation; reward that sub with one of your several vacancies that open up during the year instead of low-balling them.

I have been working at Saint Lucie County School Board part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility to work as a sub. Hours are very good. Training is on-going. Managers really appear to care about you. Positive support.

    Cons

No stability with hours or route. Route changes almost day to day. When you go full-time you are at the bottom as far as seniority and may have very limited hours.

    Advice to Management

Educate those that have been driving for the county for many, many years so they will be better versed in expected professionalism.

    Fun Holiday gatherings

    Cons

Salary needs to be adjusted to the cost of living expense

    Advice to Management

Suggestion that the Healthcare benefits are taking another look. They are very expensive when a family doesn't go to the doctors very much during the year.

I have been working at Saint Lucie County School Board full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It's a public school district - the environment is reasonably safe and clean.

    Cons

Lots of restrictions, regulations and requirements. Especially awful: the new teacher evaluation system (Marzano). Many Personal Development activities are pure time wasters.

    Advice to Management

Be on the side of teachers and students, not politicians.

You get the opportunity to have a positive impact in the education of a wide and diverse array of kids from K to 12 grade.

    Cons

Very short notice of positions available which requires you to be ready at 5 am in the morning.
