I worked at Saint Petersburg College part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

a lot better pay rate (per credit hour) as compared to Hillsborough Community College. In addition, higher pay rate for education level beyond master degree. HCC does not make such a pay difference.

    Cons

A big disappoint when the president decided to cut adjunct instructors' hours in order to avoid paying medical benefits under the new Affordable Care Act which intends to provide health coverage for those who work 30 hours or more a week.

Adjunct instructors make up the great majority of SPC's faculty and have been paid half of the full time salary although some are actually teaching close to nearly full time load. These are the people who make the low tuition possible.

I remember Tampa Bay Times at the time ran a editorial urging SPC to reconsider that decision saying the added cost will only constitute a small portion of its annual budget.

I felt the president who likes to wear a bow tie now looks really pretty eccentric and uncaring, in fact, disgusting. I am sorry, but that is how I feel.

I worked at Saint Petersburg College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some very wonderful and caring people work here.

    Cons

The college President and VPs are shameful in allowing Provosts and deans have poor ethics and break the rules without repercussion. President allows this behavior. Work culture has poor ethics, nepotism, retaliation, workplace violence and discrimination prevails.

    Advice to Management

BOT should fire the President in addition to two top VPs. Fire unethical personnel and replace with ethical management/leadership who care about students and staff.

I worked at Saint Petersburg College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone was really nice it was an excellent place to work and I would recommend it to others.

    Cons

I don't really have any complaints except maybe that we were asked to have everyone we tutored fill out a questionnaire and sign in and out multiple times (from computer when you first came in and on paper if you wanted a tutor's help)

I worked at Saint Petersburg College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not a reason to work in SPC. Bosses don't support employees.

    Cons

Communication between bosses and employees is very poor. Nothing seems to get done as I read in another reviews about SPC.People don't show respect in meetings. They don't support employees to succeed and they can drop your job without telling you anything and you and your family leave with nothing. No compassion, No humanity -

    Advice to Management

Management need to support their employees. Friendly and sincere. comunication and informative. Show good manners and good actitud are a must when we are working.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Saint Petersburg College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Starting salaries are ok for this area.

    Cons

You won't be promoted unless you are politically connected or related to someone in upper management. Very unethical place to work with a mentality of do as I say - not as I do. Upper management is the worse at this place- from the President, BOT, Provosts and Dept. heads.

    Advice to Management

Instead of hiring/promoting because of Who you know, you should hire/promote because of What you know.
